what 4 link is the best bang for your buck?

It seems there are tons of companies that make 4 links and the prices are from 100ish bucks to 1k.

I know that the cheapest is not always the crapiest and the most expensive is not always the best...but I also know a lot of times you get what you pay for.

so, with that said what are some good 4links out there at a decent price for 55 to 59 chevy trucks?

on the cheap price end I see there is the FBI stuff. they have heim and bushing end kits for around 200 bucks. And with that said what is better? heim or bushing?


on the expensive side there is the mark williams kit for 800ish dollars.


in between is the heidt Rear 4-Link, Plain $369



so...which have you used and or like?

Also, what is available for the 55-59 chevy trucks instead of the universal kits?

I don't know enough about all of the different ones, but on a triangulated 4 link, the air ride brand is pretty well built and decent price,
I would stay away from chassis tech aim industries that whole group whatever they call themselves in all the different mags. I have one of thiers, and really cheaply built, yeah it would work but very cheap! Thats my 2 cents

I used the Air Ride Tech triangulated 4 bars. Good quality parts, but the mig welds could look better. If I had it to do over, I would buy the parts sep.. & do the welding myself. I do like the triangulated 4 bar best because it is the simplest, with no pan hard bar, therefore keeps the rear centered throughout the travel arc.

I picked up an ART ARS14550 parrallel with air bags for $450 off ebay. It's for an 88-98 full size and the bars are about 6" longer than the kits for the 55-59. I think with the longer bars the ride is a bit better as well.

There is a difference in 4 bar and 4 link. 4 bar is the ART and FBI kit. A 4 link is the Mark williams style kit which is geared more toward drag racing. 4 Links give you a lot of adjustability for better take offs to plant the tires. 4 Bars are what you should be using on the street less setup head aches and a better ride due to the longer bars. On a 4 link you could get your self into trouble on corners if not setup correctly. You could end up with a bad push or the rear coming around when braking when it normally wouldn't with a 4 bar. If this is your first or second suspension install I would stay with a 4 bar that has very little adjustability. The ART type kit has the ride already engineered into it.

I am also looking for a rear air bag kit...suicide doors has a ton of them ranging from 219 to 249. Can anybody look at this page and tell me what one they think would work best. It is all greek to me on air bags.

No Limit is very beefey with there larger bars, Very good products and middle of the road for prices, when you order from Rob ask him when you can expect to receive them!!

What rear end are you using? GM 12 bolt is harder to install one on. A Ford 9 is easier. The difference being that the ford is is a heavy sheet metal Pumpkin housing and the GM is cast so you will have to weld on the tubes for the GM and can weld on the Housing on the ford.

i don't like the inherent design flaws in a triangulated 4 link, but many guys like them. i think people are overly concerned with the arcing travel of a panhard bar. in reality, with a decent length bar, the side to side travel is not much at all.

4-bars and 4-links, they are basically the same, but what is referred to as a 4-bar, the links are parallel with each other, and a 4-link the bars converge to create an instant center that can be used to tune launch characteristics

i am going to use individual parts from suicide doors to build a custom converging offset 3-link.

Ive been looking for a triangulated 4-link also. I have been tempted with going with the FBI kit as well. I didnt like the fact that they didnt have weld in bungs due to the fact that i would like to cut my tubes to my own desired length. The only suggestion I can give that you might consider is getting a kit that has Left hand and right hand joints. A lot of kits only run right hand threads. Having left hand on one end and right hand on the other end of your tubes allows you to make adjustments on your suspension while its still bolted under the truck.
