Re: Do you know axles?

It doesn't look that bad, but axels are heat treated especially on the splines and it looks there's a little blueing on them, a sign the heat treating has been undone. For the extra $89 I'd get a new set.

Re: Do you know axles?

Sounds like someone forgot to remove the cross-shaft. I personally would not use them on my truck - it would always be a nagging 'what if' and I can't stand those. They may be fine, but not for me.

A nick is one thing.A burn is another right there.I`d say you`d be ok.But,I don`t like to get into rears any more than I have to.That could be dressed and there`s still plenty of mating/contact (most of it).I`m just leary on 12-bolt strength in the first place.I`m buying harder axles for my half ton.

Re: Do you know axles?

This will be hard to pass up. He is giving me a better price than posted because of the damage. I'm having Randy's Ring and Pinion rebuild my stock posi 4 10 gear rear. I hate to spend the money and have them put some sort of disclaimer on their work because the axle has that spot on it. This all going to be behind Caddy 500, turbo 400, and Gear Vendors OD. I plan on going through a couple of sets of rear tires
Maybe I should pick up a stronger set anyway.

Thanks for your help guys

Re: Do you know axles?

first let me tell you that i am no axle expert. but my question is.
are these axles stronger than regular axles?
if not in my opinion i think you would be better off re drilling a stock axle for 5 lug. cause you no what happens if that C-clip fails.. then again it may last forever. but at 60mph is it worth chancing? i know i am not much help but this is one of those things that could be very serous..
