It's going to get a makeover, I intended on doing this when I bought it to begin with. It going to be turned into a pro tourning ride with all the late model tech. C4 front suspension, probably a procharged lq4 and th400 with a gear vendors, I can't decide on the rear. I can get a hell of a deal on a c5 6 speed rear setup or do a c4, or a cobra IRS ( I can't make up my mind). I am going to put some 22x10's or 12's on the back and air ride on all 4 corners. Probably going to keep the marker lights and door handles but install a fuel door of some sort. Going to shave the firewall and cowl and it will not have wipers, vintage air, and the list goes on.

Cobra IRS is the same as the Explorer, so you could prolly find one a little cheaper that way. Also, I was talking to Nathan Porter at Goodguys about the possibility of an IRS setup without the big cantilevers above the axle- he said he was working on it. Would be nice to keep it under the floor.
You still planning on running the 67-68 trim? Good luck to you- keep the pics comin'!

14" will fit. Make the rear end as narrow as possible and run minimal backspacing. They will look SICK.

Well, I got lucky for a change today. Stoped in the gas station for some snuff and saw a guy that did some land clearing for me. He was getting gas in is 03 2500 chevy flat bed and I walked up and we got on the subject of crappy gas mileage and I said this truck has a 6.0 in it right and he said yeah that it is on it's second motor. I said dang how many miles does it have on it and he said the 1st motor went out @ about 60k. He said he was coming down the side of a mountain and it quit picking up oil and burnt the motor up. I asked reckon the gm place still has it since they put a new one in and he said that he had it and would take $200 for it. It is a long block with the intake and injectors still on it. So I bought it, I am going to pick it up next week. I figure maybe get the crank turned and rod and main bearings and she will be good as new. Just thought I would share.

OK guys here's the pickle. I was planning on do a full custom suspension on the blazer since I figured it would take a while to find and build a motor. Here's where I am at: I can take the 6.0 get a crank or have it turned and put new bearings in it and get all the other things I will need, I have the th400 and a brand new stall that I can put behind the 6.0. I have a complete 85 front suspension that I can put under it but I will section the crossmember and go tubular and air ride. On the rear I have the trailing arms and rear end out of my 67 that I can narrow and rebuild and put under it with a step notch and air ride. I still think it will handle good with what I have and still get the same lowness out of it ( is lowness a word?). If I go with what I have the fab work will be minimal and I could have it back on the road about this time next year but if I wait and do the vette suspension it will be another year or more probably. I know the vette suspension will be cool but I mainly wanted it for the brakes and handling but I think kore3 is going to have the c5 vette front brakes for us very soon. I don't mind cutting up my bed floor since I can mount the seat right on top of the step and you wont be able to tell it is there.
So think about this, my blazer with a 6.0 and th400 ( I can add the procharger and gearvendors when the cash gets here), big brakes on all 4 corners (13" rotors), air ride, new paint, 20x10's on the front and 22x12's on the back and it done and driving in about a year. What would you do????? |

I have stock arms front and back in the Tahoe but with a 1.25" bar up front and a late Camaro rear bar and it handles very well. IRS would be cool but I think I'd go with the above description if I were in your shoes. The vette stuff can drag out a project...

That is what I was thinking, I really only got to enjoy the blazer about 4 months since I bought it in Nov of 2006. I want to get it done and enjoy it before we have a baby and the wife really gets tired of my spending and being in the shop so much. Really I don't have a lot of body work to do, the drivers side bed side needs to be blocked but that is about the extent of the body work besides putting in a fuel filler door. I want to move the front suspension forward and the rear back to make the wheels line up in the fender openings but that shouldn't be too hard. I need to get a game plan together and stick to it. I know I want a procharger and my buddy is a dealer for them so I can get one at cost but I can add that anytime. Really what I need to do is get the suspension back under it and get it moved to where I want it and go from there. I can do the suspension this winter and do the body work in the spring and should have it back on the road by mid summer.

I wish you luck on your time line. Something always changes and extends my time lines. I do things one step at a time and keep it drivable whenever possible, it doesn't need to be perfect to be enjoyable.
