Rotating stepside Fenders?

Hey guys, I have a 71 stepside that I just put a 73-87 stepside bed on. I am planning on pulling the gas tank from behind the seat in the cab, and installing a Blazer tank in the back between the frame rails. I got this idea that if I pull the fenders off swap sides, the location of the fuel door will be at the back of the driver's side with is a perfect location for the Blazer tank. I can remove and relocate the steps easy enough, but I am wondering if without the step, are the fenders the same front and rear? They look the same to me to where it would work....

Re: Rotating stepside Fenders?

I am positive they are wider at the front then the back, so there would be issues with the mounting holes.

Re: Rotating stepside Fenders?

where the step attaches to the fender, the fender is cut in the same shape as the step,

Re: Rotating stepside Fenders?

why not just cut out the cap, tack in a piece of sheet metal then cut and tack the cap where you want it?

Re: Rotating stepside Fenders?

See the pic, I've got the fuel door set up, not just a hole for a cap. I would like to use that. That's some pretty serious welding that I don't know how to do. Maybe I can run a long filler hose from the stock location.
