I don’t think so. I believe the tail shafts are different you would also need the adaptor for the transfer case your using. 68s had rockwell but you can get a 205 for the trans to. if you had to use that trans you could use a divorced transfer case.

Re: 4 speeds

I don't know that tranny but 90% of the time a 2x4 tranny doesn't work in a 4x4 without modifying it, just guessing so about .01c worth of info here

Re: 4 speeds

For an SM420 or SM465, you can after you swap in a 4x4 output shaft. Ther eis also an adapter housing which either transmission needs, and should be checked for cracks.

I don't have alot of experience with the SM420, but I think 2 and 4 wheel drive versions of it are both 10 spline. If it's a 2wd 465, it will have a 35 spline mainshaft with a threaded end. You could always swap the mainshaft, I believe the rear cover just unbolts and you can bolt up an adapter, but that is very time consuming and expensive. You would basically get a rebuilt tranny, but they are fairly bulletproof even after hard service lives. These 4 speed trannies aren't exactly hard to find, I'd just wait for a complete setup to come your way. Hell, if you were closer I'd even sell you one for not a whole lot, think I've got 4-5 in the spares pile.

Re: 4 speeds

I just changed the main shaft in my 465 with one I bought on ebay. Was not hard to do, took me a day, and I picked up an adapter from a fellow board member. It's ready to bolt in now. It will replace my 3 on the tree.
