Re: Project OverKill
Went on an 8 day Elk/Deer hunting trip, Oct. 19-28 th. Saw elk...too far away so did not shoot. Did the awesome spot and stalk (500 yards) on a very nice mule deer. Snuck, creeped and crawled as close as I could get without spooking him. One shot from 250 yards and a 2 mile carry out. Great trip. In case you're interested, I shoot a Winchester bolt model 70, Classic Stainless with BOSS...chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum. Awesome rifle (they are not made anymore). Topped with a Leupold 3.5-10 x 50 mm Stainless Vari-X III scope.
Truck: Currently building Original 68 truck 12 bolt rearend. New Eaton 373 posi, all new ring, pinion, and bearings. New 5 lug axels, Glock disc bracket brake kit w' 93-97 Camaro E brake calipers. Blasted 12 bolt housing painted gloss black. New ECE trailing arms. Pics soon. Modified my wheel skates to roll my frame around, making it easy to move while all the frame work is in progress. Alex

Re: Project OverKill
A big thanks to board member Frank at PickmUp Parts! Frank sold and sent me a pair of Big Block towers. They arrived in Ultra clean shape with a coat of flat black. A quick scuff and a coat or two of Gloss Black and here they are....another piece to the puzzle waiting to be Grade 8 bolted in place! Orange showing on the U bolt thread tops...WILL be wire wheeled off!
Thanks again Frank! Alex

Re: Project OverKill
Thanks for the kind words about my frame, I am very happy with the results. Hunting pics, ahh yes...I'll post them in the general section. Had a chance yesterday to try out my Miller 180. Not too bad for an old fart inexperienced welder.

Re: Project OverKill
Just bought a Big Block Chevy 454 builder block, fresh .030 over bore, casting #10069286. It's the last of the desirable Gen IV BBC's made in 1990, Two piece rear main seals and ...drum roll please....it's an ORIGINAL 4 BOLT main block. Wooo Hooo Very excited!!!

Re: Project OverKill
For the frame I am putting nothing but grade 8 hardware back on. I am either cleaing up original grade 8 bolts or buying them new. Most of the bolts have been purchased at Lowes. They have a pretty good hardware dept. For my engine build I have a complete big block stainless hardware kit, I think I bought off ebay some years back. The rest will probably come from Summit and be ARP stuff.

Finished Shaving the firewall...sort of, well the holes anyway. Going to add some metal to the corner on the passenger side so it matches the drivers side. Then I am going to weld up the channel on the top of the firewall. Have to say my new Miller 180 performed great, wire speed 29 and amperage 2.2...nice bacon frying sounding welds.

Re: Project OverKill
Thanks Gringoloco! Think I am going 18 circuit Painless, gonna hide & snake all the wiring through fenders and up from under the cab where necessary.
Stoney, Passenger side metal cut outs came off EBAY, the guy in Canada. All other pieces were cut out of my wasted passenger side front fender. Welding wire was .023 gauge.

Thanks for the info, I'm in the phase you are at with mine and yours looks excellent.
Mine won't be an overkill by no means.

Re: Project OverKill
Welcome Stoney. Made a template to match drivers side, layed it out on a piece of 16 gauge steel, it was available and free, cut and welded it in place.
Now to weld in the cover piece over the channel. I'm no Kevin...but I got it done. Should I angle the above cover piece like Kevin did on Lemon Drop???

Lots of progress since I last viewed your thread. You're going to love the bbc! My 454 I put in my 69 is my first bbc and the torque is really fun!
