What vendor carries a rear flip kit for 67-72

I have searched numerous vendor sites trying to find a rear flip kit for my 68 gmc and i havent had any luck. Summit racing only has them for 1973 and newer chevy's. Will the 73-87 kit work on my truck or will the narrow leaf springs affect that. Or if anyone has made there own flip kit and would like to let me know how you did it i would apprieciate it... THanks

Re: What vendor carries a rear flip kit for 67-72

G.M.C Pauls has them, As would Wes with Classsic Heartbeat. You can however make your own. with new saddles moved on the bottom and just flipping your stock- u bolts although i would replace the u bolts... i have done it either way.. but i think the flip kit would be best.... as when you make your own ,there is alot of measuring and know how....the flip kit takes the guess work out of all that....tony....hope this may help

Total cost for the flip kit, 4 shocks and springs was $459.00 and that included shipping.

I usually make my own flip kits. Your local trailer parts supply house will sell you a pair of axle saddles for under 20 bucks.

Even Northern Tool and Tractor Supply stores stock them. You can use a Home Depot protractor to set up the pinion angle before you stitch the saddles in place.

Tx firefighter

I was told its not a good idea to make your own because it will move your axle forward. The flip kit has an offset hole for the center pin on your leaf springs

Re: What vendor carries a rear flip kit for 67-72

In my opinion, the reason the commercial kits offset the pin on their flip saddles is too gain a bit of driveshaft leeway when lowering it that far. When you drop one that deep, the yoke slides further into the transmission. You should either shorten the driveshaft a bit to compensate or offest the rearend rearwared a bit.

I just make sure my rearend is centered in the wheelwells for aestetics and build the driveshaft length as needed. It's worked well for me.

Don't get me wrong though, I've installed countless Belltech rear flip kits on 88 and newer trucks. Thats for people paying me for the work who want quick, pretty results. For my own junk though, it's grind, weld and paint, then fold my money that I saved in half and stick it back into my wallet.

Tx Firefighter...
Do you have any pictures of the trucks you've made the flip kits for. Because if it really does look ok then i'll just save myself some $ and make mine.

Re: What vendor carries a rear flip kit for 67-72

You can make flip kits work from other vehicles. Really the perches fit alot of rear ends. I've used camaro ones on ford rears and you just make them work. Its not really hard. We get our axles shortened fairly inexpensive and 1 day service. like $75.00

The 73-87 kits are easier to find & it doesnt take much to make them work...

Do you know what it takes to make the 73-87 kit work? Also i was wandering if 73-87 front lowering coils will work because summit racing carries there own brand for $73.95 for 3 inch drop.

Yes & yes. I have both on my 69. The flip kit is very easy to make work. Just trim a notch on each corner so it fits in the narrower perch. I have 3" Ground Force (summit 73-87) springs in my truck too...

Ok that is great because I can save myself a ton of $$$ by using the 73-87 parts.

I wonder why Stylin' Trucks changed their name from Stylin' Concepts?

Re: What vendor carries a rear flip kit for 67-72

I do not know why they had the name change but the service was great and my parts where on my door step in a few days. I paid about $130 for the flip kit made by DJM... I felt like this was a fair price... Summit Racing wanted $165.00 for the same kit...

Re: What vendor carries a rear flip kit for 67-72

I'm pretty sure i am going to use the 73-87 parts on my 68 because the flip kit i found is only $84.75 and the 3 inch lowering coils are only $73.95 and that is cheaper than any of the others i have found.

Re: What vendor carries a rear flip kit for 67-72

I have a question.. What if I didn't want to flip the rear end but still wanted to drop it some just to level it up a bit .. is there a home brew option? I have a torch and welder handy.. it is a 3/4 ton and the springs are huge! .. can I remove some of the leaf springs? or move the cups up on the frame and just use 2 bolts instead of 4? any free type remedies.. .

Thanks and sorry for hi-jacking this thread but I thought this would be a good place to put this with out opening up a whole different thread topic..
