D60 high pinion king ping

what would a Dana 60 from an 88 f 350 that has been cut down and diff moved to fit passenger side output open diff with 4.88 gears and completely rebuilt worth??

and how hard is the job of making it fit a Chevy. I can find a used stock ford dana60 allot easier than I can a GM part, cheaper too.....

Re: D60 high pinion king ping

Ford D60 usaly sell for more. In your area that axle will probly sell for 2k to 3k. I never done this way so Im not going to be much help but I would think its not going to have a spring perch on the dif side so you would have to add one. its normally on the diff itself but that wont be an option on this set up so the diff will have to be moved in enoug to weld a perch to the axle tube I dont know this may effet the drive line angles enough to give you some vibration when in 4x4. Maybe some one else will post on this. usaly chevy guys use older ford axles.

Re: D60 high pinion king ping

personally, i'd steer clear of that. there's no telling if the shafts are stock, nor the quality of the work performed.

a much simpler swap would be a 78-79 HP 60, but would require a transfer case swap as well.

Re: D60 high pinion king ping

I would almost bet the used cutome axles init. maybe not. I dont see why it wouldnt work if you can get it for a good price. how do all the welds look?

I agree that D60's for SRW GM's out here in the west are pricey, but you would be better of to buy an axle out of a DRW and do the conversion on that instead of the route you are looking at IMO.

The weak link on the Ford Dana 60's are the knuckles.

Hydro and high steer combined will bust the tops right off.
(ask me how I know)

Easy fix though, go Deadenbear.

Notice the orange in the pic.

Re: D60 high pinion king ping

right on .. I thought you(VT) had a ford 60 on that. I remember that post when yours broke, I also remember drooling over your portable impact gun! nice tools there.

I'm going to look at it in person tomorrow. The guy told me he has chevy shafts in it. The short(stubs?) are still ford parts.

Around here there are a handful of rock buggy, crawler shops that only do custom fab work. I'm pretty confident that it was built here in town by one of them.
Its nice to be close to moab except when it comes to finding HD truck parts for a cheap price, everyone knows that its in demand and they know how much the parts are worth.

If I buy it, we have a mag particle tester and a die penetrant kit at work so I can check the knuckles for cracks before it gets put into service.

Who did you buy your Deadenbear knuckles from?

Contact Doug @ Extreme Axle Sales.

Maybe I should find and pull a few D60's from around here and bring em out there, maybe then I could finally attend Blazer Bash by selling the axles to pay for the trip.

It's the strongest diff out there, if you can verify the quality...I'd get it.

Re: D60 high pinion king ping

Dunno if you'd be interested, but I have a Dodge 60 front out of an 86. 4.10s not bad shape safe for covered in grease and a busted lockout. $500. I can ship, last I checked was just under $400 to CO.

Re: D60 high pinion king ping

I went out to look at the axle.

The guy also had a 78 blazer with a 14bff with a Detroit locker and 4.88 gears. The front is a 44 open diff with 4.88 also. dual electric fans TH400 tranny all working and running. He said the 350 in it is worn out but still works good enough. brand new edlebrock 600cfm with elec choke and edlbrock intake. MSD dist. all on 38x15.50 PJ dirt grips. I drove it around a bit and it was just like he said all working but kinda tired.

SO...... He wants 1500 for the 60 only no tires. 3000 for the blazer as is. I kept asking about the 14b if he would part with that also. He made me the deal of the day. 3 grand and I could haul it all away. thats with 2 brand new 38s and 4 more with about 1/2 tread. and a 37" spare.

for me it was a deal I couldn't refuse.

I'm going to take what i want off it for my two other trucks and should have a running and rolling 78 to part out or sell complete by this summer or so.

When I get better pics of the 60 ill put them in on my build page cuz thats were the one ton stuff will end up.

I wanted the hood to slam when the front hit but it didnt LOL (open cuz i had to give it a jump)
