you can still get factory tail gates at the dealer... and fairly cheap from what I remember.

the new repo tailgates look great as long as you don't try to put them on a truck , the only good thing I can say about the aftermarket gate's is that they come without any rust , it's ashamed too because the only thing wrong with them is the side support brace's are shaped wrong , if it wasn't for that they would be a great part ,,,

Stepside gates were available at the dealer recently (they are the same up to 87). Inner fenders are also still available at the dealer.

uh oh... I dunno why i thought he said stepside.
Let me rephrase my original responce... if it's a stepside, you can get the tail gate at the dealership still. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 11-15-2007 at 08:31 PM. |

Re: building a 71 chevy short box FENDER HELP!!
I agree with 673ontree. They are worthless. When I got mine it had a dent (small) but still a dent. The bottom spot welds had to be redone as the two pieces weren't pushed together enough but welded anyway. Had to do some grinding to make the gaps correct. Its so thin you can take your fingers at the top and squeeze and it actually moves together a little. I would be afraid to stand on it in the middle with the gate down of corse. I think it would buckle. When I go to shut it I put my hands out as far as I can and push it shut just so it doesn't bend in over time. Save your money and pay 4-5 hundred for a perfect one. You'll be glad you did in the long run.
