How far have you driven it?

What's the furthest you've ever gone in your Blazer?
Got to thinking about this the other day when I wanted to go to town, about 30 miles, in mine when my husband was on a business trip = nobody to drag me home if it broke down.
When I bought mine, drove it 100 miles to a friends house then came back the next days & picked it up with a trailer. It was raining extremely hard, no wipers (switch fell out from under the dash when I attempted to turned it on), top leaking, & I had no confidence in the truck itself = I was scared.

Re: How far have you driven it?

For me my longest drive in the K5 was from Cali to Moab, UT and back, and wheeling in Moab for 3 days straight.
So about 2000 miles or more:

My longest trip from Denver to North Central New Mexico. I went hunting for a week and put around 1,800 Miles round trip. Ran like a champ no top on the whole time. Igot caught in the rain a few times, but it was fun.

Re: How far have you driven it?

Only about 100 miles roundtrip for me, haven't had the opportunity to go any further yet but if I had the time and gas money I have enough confindence in it to get me anywhere in US right now.

Re: How far have you driven it?

Drove mine from Bob's house in Eugene to our house in Seattle the first day I owned it. That's about 300 miles. I haven't taken it much more than 80 miles or so round trip since then, but I don't really hesitate to take it anywhere. It's rock solid and runs perfect. Daily commute is only about 20 mile

Re: How far have you driven it?

First day I met my Blazer we drove from North Platte, Ne to Green Bay, Wi. Around 900 miles. All went uneventful other than a new battery and oil change. Battery seemed weak and oil just to be sure.

Take it to Milwaukee from Green Bay a couple time a month when the salt isn't on the road. Approx. 300 miles round trip.

I drove mine from Austin to Lubbock and back to Austin at least once a month (720 miles round trip) for four years. Admittedly, gas was cheaper, but my paychecks were LOTS smaller!

So Cal to Idaho. About 1,100 miles. Drove straight through with just stops for gas and food. Took about 20 hours or so.

Re: How far have you driven it?

My wife drove my 71 from Glendora CA to Coeur d Alene ID when we moved up here. About 1350 miles. The trip took about 26 hours. The only problem she had was when our rottreiller barfed in the console about 50 miles from Coeur D Alene.(console was open at the time,I cleaned the heck of it but I still get a little whiff of it on a very hot day!!!!)

Re: How far have you driven it?

Most of you guys don't seem to have much faith in your trucks. I've drove mine 161000 miles since new, and it's never failed to get me home. Also it's never seen the inside of a repair shop. Longest single trip was from Tucson to Maine and back. Don't remember the miles. A few years ago from Vegas to Tx. dragging my 68 Chevelle on dolly. Have faith guys, they may rust, but their tough. It probably helps that I'm a retired mechanic, and I've always used it, but never abused it.

Re: How far have you driven it?

Bought my Blazer in Tucson,Az. and have taken it on several long trips.
Here's a summery.

From Tucson,Az I drove it to Windsor,Ontario-2000 miles.
Got married and then drove back to Tucson, another 2000 miles.

Picked up my stuff and drove from Tucson,Az to Kennewick,Wa.-1675 miles.

Then a short one,Kennewick,Wa. to Seattle.-227 miles.

Then Seattle,Wa. to SantaBarbara,Ca.-1114 miles.

Then SantaBarbara,Ca to Flagstaff,Az.-544 miles.

Then Flagstaff,Az. to Detroit,Mi.-1890 miles.

And lastly another short one to my present home...Detroit,Mi to Petrolia,On.-85 miles

So ya...I've taken my Blazer for a ride or two!

Re: How far have you driven it?

I think Bobby K has a pretty impressive trip log! I have probably gone around 60 miles here and there, but that is about it. I have more confidence in it that that...I just don't have the AC working. TEXAS is HOT! Now that its cooler, I will probably take a few more road trips in the 200 mile round trip range.

Re: How far have you driven it?

Cool stories keep them coming!

There is a Jimmy, in my hometown that the local dentist bought new. (Not sure of year 69-72, I can't tell on GMCs yet). His wife, at that time, said she remembers driving it from Mississippi to Yellow Stone Park right after they got it. And I remember him dropping his daughter off at school in it. I've begged him to let me buy it, but he want sell...I'm first on the list though, so maybe one day!!!

Re: How far have you driven it?

I bought the Fox in Sacramento, CA and drove straight home to Houston, TX. No problems. I used to live in Waco, TX and went to Houston every weekend, about 350 round trip. Did that for a year with no trouble. Waco to San Antonio, about 450 round trip, and came back with 2 burnt pistons. Conroe to Houston after tranny work, 45 miles, tranny blew up. Oh, the shame. Loaded up back to conroe for waranty work behind a Ford

If'n you count all the hours you spent on the sides of mountains at 1/2 to 1 mph you probably drove from Vt. to Fla.

500 miles, from Jacksonville NC, to Murphy NC wheeled Tellico ORV for 24 hours and drove back 500 miles. So 1K miles is the longest. I have made several 4+ hour trips in it.

It will, it's a machine. Other than rearends, mine has been pretty durable but their has been the occasional failure. Fuel pumps and condensors have left it stranded a couple of times. I'd suggest putting a timing chain in yours ASAP.

My truck had 113,xxx miles on it when we got it in 1977. I learned to drive in it in 1978 (I was 10) and when I got it (totaled by a '77 Lincoln) from my Dad in 1987, it had 248,xxx. At 252,xxx, the original motor expired due to the original timing chain breaking. It was about time as the original clutch was into the rivets. I drove it daily from 88-92 and quite often until 98 when I got my first pickup truck. Mileage is around 330,xxx. But afraid to drive it anywhere I am not.

Re: How far have you driven it?

Sorry Mike. I didn't mean to imply mine has never been worked on. I just ment nobody has ever worked on it but me. Actually I tore it down for the first time when it was a week old. I'm from the muscle car era, and that smoged down 350 just didn't cut it. Not after your used to driving a hemi for years. Redone the motor about 5000 miles ago with all the trick parts in the book. Runs great top & bottom end. But ruined my mileage. First build got 16 mpg. Now gets about 9 or 10. Rhodes vairable cam & lifter set up made it a better 4 X4, with lots of bottom end, but sucks gas like a fish.
