I love Kansas
I really need some input from everyone here to see if this direction is even worth going on my project The plan was to place my 71 GMC LWB cab on a 67 SWB frame and use the cab off of the 71 since it is in lmost perfect shape where as the 67 is toast. I was also planning on keeping the 67 clip on the front.
Here inlies the problem since I will be using a 67 frame a 71 cab and a replacement 350 for this project the state will only title it as a 2008 Chevy C-10 this project will be total rebuild no stone left unturned. Would this progect even be worth doing as I don't know how hard it would be to ever sell if I had to with the title stated like that. Only plus as a new vehicle I can have any option available and it be correct with no milage excedes mech limits disclaimer. Just wanting some feed back. |

Re: I love Kansas
If you are building it for yourself and don't intend on selling it...no problem. If you are trying to build a numbers matching truck...start over with something else.

Re: I love Kansas
I would think as a 2008 you are subject to smog legislation, no? I see no reason to do what you're doing. Find something that is already a '71, or a 67. Just my .02

There has to be more people in Kansas that have swapped things around and didn't jump through those hoops, So It would benifit you to really check around what others have done. I would never register it as an 08 though because if your state is anything like KALI they will make it pass all smog and satfey standards for 08. Even if your state doesn't do that now they may start in the future. |

Re: I love Kansas
Wouldn't an 08 be way more expensive to insure?

Re: I love Kansas
yes more expensive to tag as it would be an 08 and prob insure No smog here we like to pollute. The prob with Kansas is 2 of the three vin spots must match or it falls to a brand new title.

Re: I love Kansas
I had no problem with mine, mines a mutt too. I just didnt tell them.
I just went in there and told them I want an antique tag for a 70 chevy pickup. Since my clip and cab are a 70. The bed is a 68, the frame is a 71, and mix and match peices from all the other years for the rest of the ****.

Re: I love Kansas
Yes, I would just do it and not even tell them if you have both titles in hand. You could scrap the the 67 cab and give the title to the yard.

Re: I love Kansas
I agree with slammed they dont care about that stuff they wont climb under the truck especially if you have the title for the 71 and if its a KS title they wont get off there lazy but to look at it if you have an out of state title and its for the 71 go to the downtown office the lady will just look through the window and open the hood to see that it runs and will sign off for the inspection. I bought an out of state car and got it titled and all they did was go through the motions.

Re: I love Kansas
I bought my 80 from missouri, and all the lady did was check the vin, didnt ask me to go see my car, did it after helping someone else haha.
As long as it doesnt look like a mutt, they probally wont check it too hard, unless the cops a dick.

Re: I love Kansas
I've titled two out of state chev trucks in Topeka. A 62 and a 69. Each time they checked that the title VIN matched both the VIN on the frame, and the VIN on the Cab. If it's an in-state title, they don't inspect the vehicle at all - you just need the title.

Re: I love Kansas
stupid question, where on the frame is the vin numbers on these trucks, I agree , I would register it with the vin on the cab you are using, unless I am reading something wrong, I dont see the problem, I was not aware our truck years had vin numbers on the frame, I would be curious to where these are, can someone enlighten me on this?
