there wil be two wires that plug onto the existing switch at the end of the top side of the column under dash, plug a male spade terminal into the female terminals in the plastic plug and run them to a switch. do not cut and splice....

Trace the wires back from the tranny, the lamps have to connect to the tranny somewhere.

If you have a four speed and no back up lights, I would think who ever put the four speed in it didn't care about the back ups and never hooked them up. Depending on the transmission it should have a electric connection somewhere on the trans., that would have a hot wire coming from the fuse block then out of the connection to the lights, when you put it in reverse it makes contact and you have lights. Hope this helps.

Randy's talking about switches for automatics. That's IF you have an auto tranny (I don't know what you have). If you have auto then it's easy.
If not then you'll have to trace the back-up lamp circuit from the tail-lights to the firewall and then down to the transmission where there should be a switch... Either way you'll have to tap into the power and neutral sides of the circuit, and run a new power and new neutral to a switch on the dash or something. Is there a reason you don't want the stock setup to work? You just want manual backup lights? ------------------ '69 3/4 ton C20 2wd w/ 350ci/400THM and a wood bed! new69owner,
well, it is an automatic transmission, but the column is a 3-speed column that I'm rigging to work as auto. The only reason I'm adding a manual switch is because I'm not sure that the shifting will agree with the placement of the column switch. Sorry I didn't mention that it was a 3-speed column. Since we all know now, what would I have to do then, to add the manual switch. ------------------ IN A TUX WITH A 68 BOWTIE. *SELLING FOR PARTS* "P.O.S" Stepside 68, Primed from Fl., rusted out a bit, but *SELLING FOR PARTS* Interested?
