locate engine codes?

Where are my engine and tranny #'s located? I looked almost everywhere. (almost because I didn't find them! ) The truck is a diesel conversion and Olds engines bolt right in. Could my mysterious 350 be a Rocket 350? Would the stock tranny still work then? Its a 3spd auto so I'm pretty sure its original. Let me know if pictures would help and I'll post them. Thanks a bunch.

Go to Swervin's site at http://www.73-87.com/chevy_ids/sbcid2.htm to find all the id's you'd probably want. The first one on the list is block id and tells you where to look on the block. Not sure about the tryanny number. You can go to my site at http://www.shelbournes.net/trucksite...nsmissions.htm to look at the differences between TH350 and TH400 trannies. Those were the two 3-speeds put in our trucks.

Good luck!
