Re: My 66 frame off.
Also I noticed that your cab has the same 4 holes behind the door on the cab as mine does.. Do you know what was mounted there at one time?

Re: My 66 frame off.
Haven't done much lately. Been collecting more parts.
I decided to use the seats that came with the truck. Except they sat to high, and the backs was too high for my liking. So I did a little design work on the computer then started to chop at my seats. i came up with this. It's just a rough design. I will have them rapped in black leather. Cut the top half of the seat frame off. I still need to make a small er one. I made a quick "bracket to see how high I wanted the seats. I think it's an inch lower now. After I figured out how high I wanted the seats off the ground, I did some rough shapping to get the back to be below the back window. Then I started on the brackets, Used 1 1/2" angle iron and square tubing. I finished up a pair and test fit them on the seats. This is how they fit. I still need to add some horizontal bracing between the two brackets to keep the seat from flexing side to side. |

Wow, great idea. Everyone's always lookin' for a seat that will bolt in, but I never thought about just makin' your own.

Re: My 66 frame off.
Thanks everyone. Made some progress the past few days.
Put up the th400 transmission yesterday and ran into some problems. The drive shaft was too long, then found one that was only an inch too long, so instead of having it cut down, my dad and I moved the motor up about and inch. Went smooth from there. Finished up shaping the seats and took them to get a quote for reupholstery. The guy is going to give me a pretty good deal. (family) The dash was a little hacked up so I cut part out of an old dash to fix it, then cut went ahead and cut out for my cd deck before it goes to paint. Good news is that I got an a/c unit for free! It's not stock, but it works, and fits nicely. Question: How do I know if I need a forward shift or a reverse shift shifter? Sorry about all the talking an no pictures!! Camera is charging. Last edited by David Flores; 12-30-2007 at 05:09 PM. |

Nice job on the truck. What are the final plans for it as far as stance, paint, wheels and tires. Can't wait to see more progress.

Re: My 66 frame off.
I bought some 5 inch drop coils from uno67.
Just picked them up from greyhound. I was surprised how fast they came in. They were shipped out Saturday and they came in Monday. I need to go to the bolt shop to get new bolts but after that I will install them. |

Re: My 66 frame off.
I read yesterday in someones thread with a 5 inch drop they had no problem.
I bought them for 70 bucks used for a few of months. I do need to get an adjustable panhard bar though. Last edited by David Flores; 01-17-2008 at 06:30 AM. |

Re: My 66 frame off.
The guy at the bolt shop was busy and didn't want to ring me up so I ended up getting all my hardware to mount my coils for free.
Also just came home to a package. Bought some fabricated valve covers on ebay. |

Re: My 66 frame off.
Hey DF.........when you get that rear end together make sure your trak bar doesnt hit your pumpkin. I just did my suburban and the linkl on the axle may have been missing some hardware.....anyway, when I set it down and backed out the drive it made an ugly noise and I later found it had contact on the cover of the rearend.......I spaced it out a bit and its fine now. Just check it; it sucks taking it apart twice!!!
