yeah, here's the McIntosh. It looks nice, but it's not exactly the shaft-style that would keep you from cutting holes.

Here's my old blaupunkt tape deck. It sounds a little better than it looks! Please ignor the red glove box cover and german shepherd sleeping in the seat...

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

I left the stock AM in dash (for traffic reports) and I just run my IPOD thru an amp and speakers under the seats. Totally invisible unless you're in the truck and looking for it. All you need is a headphone to RCA adapter cable and you control the volume and such with the 'pod. The only bummer is no FM, but they make an IPOD tuner if you really want it.

Hey CS,
That's a cool idea! Can an external amp be added? Who's doing the conversion? How much?

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

I have an Alpine AM/FM/Cassette(&100w component amp)from my camper hauler I`m saving for one of mine.I have the matching cell phone, too. It pauses the tape and lowers radio volume when the phone rings.Too bad it`s analog.I also have a Kenwood and some others I`ve saved while I sold the radio deletes I had.I figure if you can have a factory radio rigged to control CD players and Ipods they can do the same for these units I have.Nothing wrong with a cassette deck, either. And,FM is FM,right?

see my thread here

it was not - i repeat: it was not cheap...
~$375, but well worth it so far. it has inputs, 180w 4ch out. you'd have to hook it to an amp from the speaker outs (no RCA outs for amp.) kinda old tech, but wait 'till you guys see how my install will be done. i think it's gonna be trick...

Look hard. You can see a early-mid 80's am/fm in there. But I did have to trim the opening....as well as the radio housing.

On the opposite end of the spectum.....

I was tasked by a board member to make a center section that would support a 'double-din' system. Haven't seen any pics of it installed, and can't for the life of me remember WHO it was for to ask.....

Here is how it went....

yeah, that was me...
I decided in the long run to go with the original-style radio instead of the double-din route...

I still have that section you made for me, though. It's just that I acquired the blazer soon after you made it, and need to get rid of the pickup I was going to put it in.

Oooh I like it. Although I may end up going CS's route, but unfortunately I got the pos "custom autosound" working. Your cluster looks great btw, but the steering wheel really screws up the look. Prev owner put a Grant wheel on here which fits well with the interior.

Now just trying to figure out this other mess of wires under here. It's like a drunk monkey was trapped under the dash for 40 years with crimp connectors and wire snippers.

Re: Show us your shaft-style stereo setups.

What sucks about most of the radios that we can get that still have the shaft mounts is having to use a face plate that doesn't jive with the interior. I know those face plates don't affect the sound, it's just me being anal about it.

Kenwood model 801 is supposed to be a shaft-mount radio. I have seen ads, but can't get a search at Crutchfield.com to show, so I'm guessing it's one they don't offer.

I have a Pontiac AM/FM, probably from '67-68, that I'd like to make work for my usage. It is supposed to have a multiplexer add-on, but that didn't make it to the sale when I picked it up for cheap, cheap, cheap. Yeah, it needs to be "reconditioned", but I couldn't pass it up. Stupid, right? I'm a sucker, what can I say.

I'm gonna find out about that Kenwood, though.

UPDATE: Googling for info didn't give me what I wanted to know. So, I went to Kenwood's website....no better luck. Then I sent them a "contact us" message. We'll see what comes from that.

Kenwood no longer makes the 801 or any shaft mount stereos. I spoke to a rep at Custom Autosound as they sell a KNW-801, but it is a clone of the Kenwood chip not the real deal. There are some dealers of Custom Auto sound equipment who sure lead you to belive that it is a real Kenwood.

Ok my Kenwood showed up today. What are yall doing for speakers on a stock truck. I saw the kickpanels and other ideas? Don't want overhead console and don't want to cut doors.

If you've moved your gas tank out from behind the seat, there are some nice examples on the board of speakers mounted there.

For a stock truck, speaker boxes underneath the seat (pictured is one of mine for a 6x9 that I've started)?
