What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
We just had a thread asking about whether to keep his truck Ochre or paint it another color. Then a response to the post said the color sort of "grows on you". My 70cst is medium Olive cab, and the bottom is dark Olive which is the way it left the factory. When I was a young "whipper snapper" I use to hate the color "Olive"... but now in my old age I like these colors ...why? Is it an age thing? Is it color perspective? What colors did you use to hate but now as you matured have you come to like? Such as Ochre and Olive...We at the 67-72 Truck sight want to know? Maybe pics of the colors of you use to dislike.

Re: What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
I'm still not crazy about the color of both of my trucks (68 GMC and 69 Chevy) but when I saw some in this forum the same color as mine that were freshly painted they look pretty sharp. I'm leaning towards the stock paint look now.
This first pic is not my truck but I borrowed this pic because it shows what mine would look like freshly painted. The second is my 68 GMC on the inside (original color). |

68gmsee ...you make a good point. Maybe some colors just wear with age better than others.

Hugger Orange
This one has taken awhile to begin to like. Still don't know if I like it enough to repaint the same color. |

Re: What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
For me, I could live with ochre or gold, but the rest of the truck has to fit the paint color, for it to compliment the truck. Even the suspension, wheels, stock, custom, .... play an important roll in complimenting the color choice.

Re: What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
I know a color I used to like but don't now - black. After having owned several black vehicles I gave up on trying to get the paint to look good.

Never was fond of white but with the right wheels, stance, window tint etc. It growed on me.

Im a big Georgia Bulldawg fan and my truck is Hugger Orange... I actually bought it from a TN Vol. The first thing I said was 'I cant wait to paint this thing red...'. Well, it grew on me and now it's staying orange, I love it on a sunny day-

Re: What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
I really disliked the ochre in the beginning, but the more I look at it, more I like it, but only as the deluxe 2 tone- white color-white-color. I have become very fond of the the medium olive w/ white. Seems like every truck that as been good solid sheet metal has been that color. Maybe the chevy truck gods are trying to tell me something....

Re: What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
I have a gold truck that was painted a few years ago (cab off-everything). The inside and engine compartment look good but the top has faded.
I'm not crazy about the gold and like these trucks in primary colors but I'm thinking of just freshening it as I'd hate to do the interior and engine bay. Plus I can't think of a color that would go with a gold interior... |

Re: What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
For me it's olive as well. I used to want everyone I saw painted something else, but now I like it. I actually prefer the dark olive with white bumpers and trim. I dunno why??
Now for cars: I have been trying to decide what color to paint my '67 Firebird 400. It was originally beige, but who wants beige right? Just for s**s and giggled I googled some beige Firbird pics and I found the pics of the car below. Now I'm actually thinking about going back stock. Theres just something about the way this car looks.

Re: What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
olive green. had an opportunity to buy a '70 Chevelle back in high school that was olive. Old lady owned, 350, auto, a/c, the works. Absolutely could not buy the car because of the color.
fast forward many years and now I own an olive '69 step. fell in love with the color when I saw it. still kicking myself in the butt for not picking up that Chevelle. It was a lot tougher making out in the Pinto I did buy. Yep, stupid decision..... |

I had a 1984 S-10 that I used to show years ago. It was the color of the firebird, maybe a bit darker. anyway, several judges commented on how much they liked the color and how unique it was. Guess GM does have an eye for different colors now and then. by the way, the tan on the firebird looks *****in! |

Re: What colors did you use to hate...but now like?
I have always liked Black but would never buy or build a black one since my wife has a black blazer there is no way to keep a black DD clean..
I'm not a big fan of the ochre but have gotten a bit more used to it,I think it stems from the fact that i don't think any car looks good in any Yellow with the rare exception of some years of Corvette. My current favorites are the mettalic coppers, golds and oranges being used on some of the newer cars. And grey.Just a plain old school dove grey.I really like it after my buddy painted his 55 Chevy dove grey.It was a very nice very straight black 210 no frills but just such incredible body work it looked like a much more expensive paint than it was.Unfortunately everywhere he drove it he kept getting the "Aren't ya gonna flame it or something" and the "I had one just like it only it was a 53 and a Ford"blah blah blah.
