"Velvet Flames"???? That's something that I had forgotten about....the fad of using velvet on stuff. Call it velvet, flocking, whatever. I remember someone did a VW in a flocked finish, so the whole car was fuzzy. Where's the logic in that? If we do one in suede and fuss about how difficult it may be to keep it clean, can you imagine having to vacuum the outside of the car?? Glad that fad is gone, too.

Notice the drop spindles and "cut" coils up front...back in the day...LOL! You can tell it was a CA truck with all that tire hanging outside the fender...it never rains there and evidently there is no gravel on the road either. I'm glad we have progressed beyond that phase...in most cases anyway.

It had a 4 & 8 track player

Most of the 30 something & older crowd know about 8 tracks, but I rarely find anyone that knows about 4 tracks. As a kid, my parents had a '67 Buick that had an underdash "combo" player that would play both. IIRC, you could play either in a std. 4 track player and only 4 of the 8 tracks would play. But a 4 track wouldn't play in an 8 track player.

I guess my pops was up with the system back in the day

I've had this mag on a piece of cardboard in a sealed bag but I thought I would break it out when I saw see ten's thread!.

One of the radios is mounted in the glove box door and I'm sure the dropped spindles were fabricated at that time rather than bought. Another thing is the Biscayne tail lights mounted in the rear bumper.

In the beginning, 4-track was the first option. Seems that the name "Muncie" or something like it comes to mind, as the manufacturer. Then, Lear came out with the 8-track. We used to install them in cars at the ESSO station I worked at in '66. When cassettes came out, I was on the island of Taiwan (68-69). The audio quality was not real good, especially compared to the 7-inch reels that we were recording on at 7.5ips. Cassettes were done at 1.75ips, I believe. We were dissing them all day long. Before returning stateside, I bought a Pioneer tape deck that played 4 and 8-track tapes. Didn't have any of them, but thought I would be getting some. After I came back stateside, I sold the 4&8-track player, bought a cassette deck and a cassette player for the car.

Now, the CD's we have so much more audio quality that a whole generation of people have come and never knew how much we enjoyed out LP's, or know that in the '50's, you could ante-up and get a 45RPM player for your vehicle.
