Anyone out there have any ideas on how to add a little leg room? Im not that tall (6'1") and I feel a little claustrophobic when I drive my '71. Would changing the seat work? As you may have guessed, I'm a newb at this.

I had the same problem. I added a thick cushion so I sit taller and that makes more leg-room.Worked out pretty good.

Welcome fellow Oregonian! Check out the faq section for 2 mods that will help. One is for shortening the brake pedal and the one I did that helped is to shorten the steering column. No more leg room but feels less cramped. Im 6'4 and shortening the column and puting an s10 steering wheel made a huge difference. Good luck!

I shortened my steering column and run a steering wheel with very little dish, it helped a bunch.

Here is a picture from my build. I took the cone for the shifter right up to the dash.

I think any old car or truck (well both my old chevs) feel pretty uncomfortable, and would be for anyone over 5' 8" or so. In my chevelle it feels like I'm right up in the steering wheel, in the pickup, I have to hold my foot and ankle at a weird angle to hold the gas down and it hurts on long trips.

I read another thread that switching to a newer bench adds a few inches too.

Same here. I used a tilt column out of a '68 Buick, shortened the cone, set it as close to the dash as possible and used a 13 1/2" wheel with very little dish. It doesn't really give you any leg room but it made it much more comfortable to drive.
