235 & Hei?
Ok I see many HEI distributors out there for every I6 chevy made, except 235. Is there something That I need to be aware of before buying HEI distributor and trying to drop it? Please offer a little insight..
Thanks..... |

I ran a pertronix in my old 235, and am using it in my 250

Re: 235 & Hei?
I believe HEI's are offered for the newer sixes, 194, 230, 250, and 292, but for the older 216's and 235's, you may have to go with slepysal's suggestion...Petronix...

Re: 235 & Hei?
Ok after a few hours of research I've figured it out. The oil pump drive is different, the closest thing to what I need would be 250 st8 6 HEI. Even with this it requires some slight modification. It would seem that it's about 3/16 to short to fully engage the oil pump drive. So the 250 HEI has to have the mount boss removed and a camp installed about 3/16 to 1/4 in further up the shaft. this ensures full oil pump engagement and also full engagement of the camshaft gear.....
Thanks for your help...... |

Here's what I consider to be the best way to rework a HEI dizzy for the 235. http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/HEI_mini.html
If you don't mind the huge head that GM used on the 250 go here. http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/hei_conversion.htm
