My Project: 1968 Model

Ok, so here is my 2yr project. A 1968 Chevrolet Custom C-10 1/2 ton, fleet side, with a 400 small block. This truck is original to my family. My Dad's Dad bought it brand new in 1968 for his work truck. Dad had it repainted in the 80's sometime before I was born. Now we are finally redoing the whole body. It was going to be a candy appled dark cobalt blue on the bottom with white and cream pearl on the cab and in the grille. We adjusted the color to a dark cobalt metallic because 3step paint is so hard to match. Especially if you change air pressures. These are the final pictures before she is off to the body shop to have her final primer coat and paint. Changed out the hood too, put in a scoop for looks and added the smooth chrome bumpers instead of the steps because it wont be needed for it anymore as it wont leave the garage except for special rides. It left for the body shop the day before Christmas at 7:30 in the morning. Will probably be around a month before we get it back. Also, we got new corvette rally wheels with beauty rings and center caps. I just can't decide which center caps. I really like the "disc brake" centers look but the truck doesn't have disc brakes and that is on the cap... Oh well, enjoy the process, I plan to keep this one updated.

New Hood:

New Red Oak Bed Boards with Stainless Strips:

Old glovebox test for the paint, that is close to what color it will be:

I welcome all opinions and comments

I plan on keeping this truck. It's like a family legacy. I thought my mamaw was going to cry when they put it on the rollback to go to the paint shop. My papaw is gone and has been since '95, so in a way this is still a big part of him for my dad and me.

Re: My Project: 1968 Model

Nice work and keep the pics comming. I wish I had my Granddad's old 69, but it got away while I was too young to think about vehicles. I plan to hang on to the 68 I am building and maybe pass it on to my son someday.

Well, he kept screwing around so we went and got it. He had done none of the work on it he said he was going to, so it is back in our garage. We need to find someone to get it done, I can't wait.

Re: My Project: 1968 Model

Ok, update:

It is in the shop as of right now. All body work done, and he should have painted the inside of the bed and the white on the cab last night and today. While it has been gone I did manage to get some blue dots for the new tail lenses. Looks pretty good. Also painted a little replica truck the same color it will be minus the white parts. So here are the new tails and the little truck.

While you're at it go ahead and paint the white on the model too.
