Am I wierd to like this?
I just want to throw some clear on it and call it a day.....
The only thing I would change is to blend out the checker board look on the one door. I am torn....who would have thought that a rough, prepping for paint would look good to me. What to do, What to do.......?

Re: Am I wierd to like this?
weird? no,as long as the look your going for is the beater look.
The checkered grid does need addressing though.

Re: Am I wierd to like this?
YOUR truck should look the way YOU want it to. Since you asked I think ALL of us who insist on owning, maintaining, driving and dumping full-time and on-going money into our old trucks are ALL more than a little weird.

Re: Am I wierd to like this?
Nothing is weird anymore. It seems like anything goes. I feel sorry for the upcoming generation of kids. There isnt anything they will be able to do that will shock us....Sorry son, its already been done.

Re: Am I wierd to like this?
I like it... If you go ahead with your idea, would it make sense to clear it with a satin finish? The gloss look of a clear coat might "compromise" the patina.

It`s gonna be tough finding a paint chip to match your paint.

Your right. Satin would look better. It would give it protection without the "newness" look. Well see what happens. Right now my wife is rolling her eyes about the whole idea.

Re: Am I wierd to like this?
the one single thing that makes an aged/patina look good is when you see it and think it actually sat in a field or a driveway and got that way naturally. with the door I am looking at up there, you can see a bunch of vertical lines that makes it look a little artificial. it also has a bit of a sheen to it ... I'm pretty sure Duplicolor makes a rattle-can of flat clear which make take that shineyness off.

Re: Am I wierd to like this?
There is a product that my painter used on the top of my dash to eliminate reflection onto the windshield... He called it "matt clear". It is just like a normal clear coat but when it dries, the finish is completely dull. I'm not sure if it would be too dull but maybe someting to consider...
