Headers

All, I know headers have been beat into the ground here before, but I need a little help from those that know. I have a 65' C10, Chevy small block, manual trans. I have a set of headers that clears just fine, but they are 1-1/2 diameter pipe. Pretty small, as I'm rebuilding the 400 sbc that was in it to put out some power. I'm looking for a set of 1-5/8 or 1-5/8 stepped to 1-3/4 or maybe even an 1-3/4 set. Still must clear all the manual clutch stuff. Anybody have part numbers or a good source for headers like these. I checked all the normal sites: Summit, Heddman, etc and didn't find anything but 1-1/2.

Any help is appreciated.

I'll post pics of the engine build once everything comes back from the machine shop. I can list specs here on the engine build, but I don't want to bore anybody.

Re: Headers

Those are very nice. Come with quite the heafty price tag too. Don't you think that 1-3/4 would kill the bottom end too much?

Re: Headers

if im correct i dont think it will, now if you were lookin at 2-3 inch headers lol forget about bottom end performance but theses shouldnt, and eys ecklers parts tend to be a little pricey you might wanna check on ebay some too

Re: Headers

The headers I would use are these http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

They are for the '73 and newer but they will fit, but the clutch bellcrank will need to be reworked. I haven't used these exact headers yet, but I have used similar ones and the bellcrank rework wasn't that bad. I can help you out in that area if you like.

Re: Headers

Ya, I would, that would be great. If you have any pics of the rework would be fantastic.

Re: Headers

I'm interested in hearing how this is done as well. I currently have an auto, but would love to go back to a manual!

Re: Headers

OK here's some pics as promised. Unfortunately I don't have this all together in a truck. The truck this was on has been out of commission for several years This was the first one I did back around 1979 or 1980. If I were to do another I would do it slightly different now, but you get the idea. With all the discussion here regarding headers and the belcrank issue, I've been considering making up a kit and offering it here for those that don't have the capability to do the mod themselves. Of course I would do it right and become a vendor. I may start another thread for that so as not to hijack this thread. In the second pic the stock one is on the left and the modified one is on the right.
