Smile TH350 Tranny Dipstick Help

Hi All,

Somehow my teenage son "broke" the tip of the transmission dipstick off. It's amazing what a teenager can do, but at least he is "doing" and trying.

Anyway, it is on my 1978 Chevy Big10 with a TH350. Would someone mind measuring thier stock dipstick and let me know how long it is. Also, does someone have a part number for it so I can see if I can locate one. I am trying to keep the truck original (it only has 58,000 miles on it) so I do not want to use one of the aftermarket chrome units. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,

Ken

Broke my dipstick on my 80 GMC also and replaced it with one of those chrome aftermarket ones. The aftermarket one wasn't as sturdy. You will probably have to remove the dipstick tube in order to get the broken piece out. I tried to use a magnet on a wire to get mine out and that didn't work.. marvxyz1

Re: TH350 Tranny Dipstick Help

I have a TH350C with a lockup converter in my truck. I don't know if it is the same one as the regular TH350 uses, but the dealer told me the part # was replaced with the locking one like the 700R4 has. That might be what you get stuck with if you want to buy new.

I tried to get a pan for my transmission that way. They had a giant stack of TH350 pans. They wanted $40 or $50 apiece for them. The junkyards didn't have them because they poke holes in them to drain the fluids. I ended up buying an aftermarket chrome one with a drain for $30 from a speed shop. It is the only aftermarket chrome I have on my truck.

You can order it from GM. I replaced my 77 leaky O-ring dipstick with the newer style one 90-91 with the better seal. I think thye whole set-up was like $30-35. That was tube, seal, dipstick
