Re: Daily drivers

I bought a 65 Chevy short step-side to fix up and drove it daily for a year. Then I found a 71 Chevy SWB and began to drive it daily and parked the 65. Now I drive a company car and they both sit.

Re: Daily drivers

My 63 C10 is my daily driver. It's been acting up the last month though. Started cutting off on me and finally figured it must be something with the fuel system. Put a brand new Edelbrock Performer Series fuel pump on it that matches the Edelbrock carb but that wasn't it. Took a look at the fuel filter and saw trash in it so I took the gas cap off and looked in the tank and what do I find, rust. Put a brand new tank and sending unit in it and it of course cut off after that so I took the fuel line off and cleaned it out and so far it hasn't cut off but will see how long that last. It also leaks oil and trans fluid from everywhere, been thinking about putting a new engine in it because it might end up being cheaper than having all the seals replaced on the motor, and most mechanics around here don't seem to care for working on these old vehicles unless they belong to them. Gotta love these old Chevy/GMC trucks though.

Re: Daily drivers

Make sure you keep a good fuel filter on it, especially until all the trash is out. One thing about these old trucks, though, you CAN work on them without having to connect a computer to it.

Re: Daily drivers

That's what I like about the old vehicles, no computers and plenty of room to work on them. They look good too. I also have a 68 short step that was originally my grandfathers and was my daily driver in high school and for 2 years after high school until someone in one of those tuner cars who thought he was in the Fast and the Furious ran into it. Destroyed the front end of it and had to get another frame for it. It's just sitting now until I can get up the money to fix it up.

Re: Daily drivers

Well mine could be a daily driver....fully covered and runs great...although I must say its a toy.

I don't drive it much...although with this nice weather we had this past week I drove it home from the shop.

Our family is normally in the '06 F-350 PS utility or '05 Element.

Re: Daily drivers

As soon as the 65 is done, my 99s10 is gone! Already have a buyer too. My sister wants it for my nephew. A soon as I get a new digital I will post some progress pics. Just been taking 35mm to record the progress for now.

Re: Daily drivers

My 64 is my daily driver. About a year ago I was looking to get out of my monthly truck payment (2005 F150) while at the same time looking for a classic for a daily driver. That's when I came across my 64. Since then I've put a new 350 in it and rebuilt the suspension. Very fun to drive but it's given me grief a few times leaving stranded.

Re: Daily drivers

I drive my '62 alot in the warmer months...I don't like to drive it much here in the winter. There's a lot of salt on the roads. When I had the '83 going, I drove it almost daily until I sold it. Now I drive my '04 Silverado z71 extended cab... Can't wait for spring!

Re: Daily drivers

My 65 was a daily driver for the first 10 years I owned it. Except for 1 year in college while I did a frame off. My dad loaned me his extra 77 for that time and when it was done, Dad got the 77 back with a fresh paint job as thanks. I still have it but it is more of a toy/project now. Since I quite doing the DD thing with it, I have had an assortment of DD and currently driving a 1998 Chevy ExtCab. It has been lowered and custom wheels/tires but not much else.

In a few more years, I will build me a 67-87 SWB Chevy for a DD, but that is after I get my shop built...
