Windshield compatibilty question... are they all the same?

I was looking at a 71 or 72 chevy truck in a junkyard that was stripped to the core but had a nice tinted windshield with the chrome on it... Since the one on my 69 Chevy is broken I want to buy it if it will fit. Mine is a plain C10 without tinted windshield. Thanks for info...

99.9 percent positive there is no difference in the glass from 67 to 72, so I believe it will fit.

That's about what I figured, but since it was a fancier chrome trim, tinted one, and mine is plain vanilla, I wanted to make sure. I'm going to try lockdocs method for removal. I'll probably use silicone oil spray on it though.

Lockdoc, if you see this, what was your install method? The reverse of the removal?

Thanks.

Here's lockdocs method again. I found another guy used stiffer tongue depressors to hold the rubber down when it's cold. Anyway, looking at the eckler's ad, it does say 67-72.. I was concerned that when you order, sometimes they want to know the year and make, etc and then send you the one for your truck... Thanks for infor..

67-72 windshields are all the same for pickups and c50 trucks. good luck getting the used one out without breaking, take your time. If you need a new windshield the part # is DW 685

I think there are two different window trims. One goes a little deeper in the gasket channel. So if you mess up the gasket make sure your new one is the correct one for your trim.

I used the rope method to re-install the windshield. I'll see if I can find the post on it. You need at least 3 people to install it. One on each side on the outside and one inside to pull the rope and work the rubber seal in. Just take your time on it. Here's a thread on it. I think chalk line is a little small, it could cut the rubber if you pull too hard on it. I use sash cord when I do them (between 1/8 and 3/16" diameter).

When you remove the windshield it is very important to keep even pressure on it and space your hands out. If the rubber seal is really hard you are better off cutting the seal and getting a new one. It should be pretty easy to peel it out far enough to get the hose and elect. cord in. Again, don't get in a hurry.

Re: Windshield compatibilty question... are they all the same?

,68gmsee,

I just pulled the window on my 68. It's really not worth trying to reuse the original seal. It's stiff and will most likely cause the window to crack if you try and pull it. Razor knife off the inside of the seal and then push it out, have a friend or two to help you lift it up once you get the top to come loose from the channel. Don't try to fold it out to the hood you could bend and damage the lower lip. Also a new seal will make the install and sealing portion much easier.

Good luck...

Re: Windshield compatibilty question... are they all the same?

Thanks all for the input..

I believe that I'll just cut the old seal off after what I've read from you all. This truck has been sitting in the hot Texas sun for a long time and I'm sure the seal is rock hard...
