VIN # Question
Is there a way to find the factory installed options for my truck by using the VIN code. The glove box sticker is gone.

What exactly is the engine build sheet. Also, what are the numbers on the frame? Do they match the VIN somehow or what?

I don't remember how you can compare the VIN to the frame numbers...
But all you can tell from the VIN is this: *Chevy or GMC (GMC VINs are sliiiightly different in form, and for 1972, have a leading T instead of a leading C) *2WD (C) or 4WD (K) *Six (S) or Eight (E) cylinders *What bodystyle the truck is/was (shortbox pickup, Suburban, panel, etc) *What year the truck is and where it was built And that's about it...oh, and the number it was to come off of the line, but I think they started those at 10000 (mine is a 60576). The build sheet is a sheet of paper they used while building the truck...if you're lucky enough to still have one intact, it'll be under the seat (tucked into the springs) or on the gas tank. Mine was still under the seat, but flaking apart.

Yeah, about all that's left of mine (which is still under the seat because removal WILL destroy it) is the dealer and the plant. Hendrie GMC in Coolidge, AZ (still there!) and Fremont, CA. A southwestern truck all its life.

oops, i just noticed...that isn't my build sheet...just one in my collection.
I guess I need to find the jpeg-ized version of the one ton's sheet now. |
