Squeaking somewhere in the steering???
So, I am not exactly sure what is going on, but when I turn the wheel when I'm going slow, or not moving something squeaks pretty loud, and it gets hard to turn the wheel. It didn't do it before, but it was kind of sitting for just a little while. Anyone have any ideas? Can't figure it out, wether its a belt, low on P.S. fluid? Not as proficient with suspension and steering as I should be.
Even if its just an idea, post a reply. If noone is sure I would like to make a "checklist" anyways. Thanks in advance, Jared

3 cheers for white lithium grease.
i had a constant squeak in my honda civic with a grant after market wheel. (armstrong steering) i happened to pick up some lithium grease for my trans linkage and put a squirt in the hub housing area of the steering wheel. it cured it immediately and hasn't made the slightest squeak since.
eventually all moving parts get dried out or get a build-up of crud in there. give it blast with lithium grease and see if it helps. |

Re: Squeaking somewhere in the steering???
Oh, the squeaking is somewhere outside the cab. Only things I could think is somewhere in the steering pump, belts, or something else out there. I really am not sure though.
Thanks, Jared

Re: Squeaking somewhere in the steering???
My brothers truck had a loud squeaking noise but it would squeal constantly while you were driving it and if you were sitting still it was very hard to turn the wheel.
We put a new belt on and it worked perfect

Re: Squeaking somewhere in the steering???
The only other options I can think of is dry tie rods, and ball joints, but they wouldn't be very loud. If it happened only when moving it could be wheel bearings. A belt is the most likely problem based on description.

Re: Squeaking somewhere in the steering???
belt check the fluid level and if all else fails get a buddy to turn the wheel while you isloate it it could be the pump gone bad too

Re: Squeaking somewhere in the steering???

I hope its not stripped Any tips to getting these bolts back in. Chevy seems to be notorious for this Well, I have to try to get the bolt back in when I get home... Loosen Other Mounting Bolts And Try To Insert The Bolt Not In It Know It May Just Need A Little Play To Go In Square Good Luck

Re: Squeaking somewhere in the steering???
When you loosened up the pump to try and get the bolt back in, did you take the belt off? If not, that'll make it ten times harder to get the bolt back in.
Get the bolt in, then reposition the pump so you can put the belt back on, tension the belt, then tighten all the bolts back up.
