tranny bolt pattern
I'm looking at getting a 700r4. I found a freshly rebuilt one in my area listed for sale. Are the bolt patterns all the same on these transmissions? Just want to make sure it will fit my 350. In the listing, it says "GM PART # 8686953" and "LISTED AS 1991-92 CAPRICE POLICE CAR"
Will this work for me? Let me know if you need any further info. thanks as always. josh |

it will bolt right up. i have one behind a 327. does it come with the torque converter?

The 700R4 trans has the same bolt pattern. If its off a V8 or the 4.3 V6 its all the same.

Yes thank you chevy! They made all SB and BB with the same bolt patern and all their trannys are the same as well even the 4.3L V6 as mentioned above.

Thanks guys. yes it comes with a torque converter. I'm sure it is a stock stall. Will the converter be ok for a mild 350? (@ 300 hp)

Yes the coverters are the same no matter what engine application you have. All chevrolet bell housings are the same, Iron Duke I4, all I6's, SB, BB, I even think the LS is the same??

The odd ball is the 2.8 V-6 and the 3.1... I don't think there were any other odd ball engines with the small bellhousing in rear wheel drive vehicles.
I would however... make sure it is the 700R4 if that's what you want. Many Caprice cars came with the 200 4R, which some will say is a better tranny (I prefer it myself) But if it is a 700 you want, make sure that's what you get. |

Well guys, I pulled the trigger. I believe I got a good deal. It is a 700r4 that has been rebuilt by a reputable shop. It is from an early 90's caprice. It has also been epoxy primed and ready to drop in. I talked to the guy for a while. He is building a 69 chevelle and was going to go with a SBC but decided on a BB. He said he paid a little over $1000 for the rebuild. It comes with the stock converter. I got him down to $450 for it. I'm happy!
