My 99 S-10.
On Dec. 29 my 99 S-10 was totaled by an 18 year old running a stop sign. After a long battle with her insurance I finally got my truck back. I'm still fighting red tape to get my settlement check, even though there are no liens on the truck.
I plan on rebuilding my S-10. It will take a lot of work and I have to get a pro to straighten the frame. It currently has a 4 cylinder and a 5 speed but those are on their way out. I have to replace almost everything uder the hood. I'm wanting to do a V-8 swap and rewire it with an aftermarket harness. The only plans set in stone are to fix the crash damage, swap in a V-8 and make it handle like a slot car. I know it wont be easy or cheap and nothing I have planned will be overnight. But working on it when I have time and money beats seeing it get stripped or crushed.

Wow, hope you were not hurt.
HMMM, have considered cutting the frame off and welding a new front portion? A donor truck with rear damage may be easy to find. Nice truck. What type of V-8 do you plan to install? A 5.3 LS would be awsome. |

Ouch.... sorry to hear that someone stole your truck, and then wrecked it. Good luck with the rebuild, and that thing will scoot with a V8 under the hood...

Re: My 99 S-10.
I'm wanting to swap in an LS-1, but with the carb conversion, I want it as simple as possible.
When I say I got it back, I meant from the insurance company. At first they said since its totaled I cant have it back. After negotiations with the insurance company I settled on a reduced settlement. Niether me nor my daughter were injured. I kept the passenger airbag turned off, a 6 year old versus an airbag would have caused injury. The girl that ran the stop sign told the State Trooper I kept coming, she thought it was a 4 way stop , not a 2 way. She was in the middle of the intersection before I could stop and I hit her going about 45 mph. Last edited by MotorHead Lon; 03-19-2008 at 07:46 PM. |

Re: My 99 S-10.
Nope she wasnt blonde. I thought it was a real young boy when I got of my truck, and I started yelling at "it". When I realized "it" was a chick I backed down, because I caused her to cry. However, she did not own the car it was her sister in law's car. The sister in law's name is Bambi.
I had thought of a vo tech school, but I'm not sure if the local one has a frame machine. I like the idea of cutting off the damaged front and welding in a new one. That way I wouldnt have to move the truck, from my shop to another. I took the rear pic this morning and found the other this afternoon. The dent below the tail light is where my wife backed the truck down the side of my GMC. I always wanted that fixed but I never wanted to do it this way. This S-10 was her daily driver until she started to abuse it. Then I gave her the crappy Astro van.
