more progress
OK... now, I turned my efforts towards the parts for the replacement front clip. Anyone paying attention knows that my burb came packed full of parts, and included with those parts, was just about everything I need to put a 68 front clip on it.
So Monday, I took my 68 core support in to the shop and started gettin it done up. This photo is the only one I have of the core support. I thought about getting a before pic... but, by the time I thought of it, it was too late. So anyways, there it is in the lower right. Took it in to work, and stripped the harness and rubber pieces off of it., then went back into the rad shop and tossed it in the boil out tank. after 30 min or so, I pulled it out, hosed it off with the steam cleaner,a nd this is what I ended up with It's hard to see what I'm pointing at, but there's a little bending going on in there, the truck this came off of had a small fender bender in the front left corner, the discoloration to the right of the photo is from where the body shop took a torch to it and straightened it up. They either didn't paint the core quickly, or just didn't do it right, becouse it was all rusty and nasty under the 5 or 6 coats of paint. So then I tossed it in the back of the truck and headed home. It sat in the bed till today when i got off of work. Was a beautifull day and I decided it was time to play some more... I dug the crappy plastic saw horses outta the basement (they will barely hold an s-10 bed... I was under it when they gave out right after someone set the tailgate in the bed). Grabbed a quart of POR15, a couple brushes, and went to town. Lather, rinse, flip over and repeat Since a lot of sunlight gets through the opening of the 67/68 grill, and POR isn't UV safe, I sprayed the front and top with a semi-gloss paint. Photo not avalible... not that you'd be able to tell in the photo anyways Nothing too exciting, but none the less... progress is progress. It's been a while since I used the POR stuff... I forgot how the paint seeks out uncovered skin and atacks it... swearing it will stay on your arms forever... or at least 2 weeks anyways. Anyways... that's all i got done today/this week. I did pick up a bulk order of carpet though... hopefully we'll have another nice day like today sometime soon so i can install it. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 03-28-2008 at 08:14 AM. |

Re: more progress
That's cool. I'm glad it's finally warm enough to work on your truck. That steam cleaner looks pretty ugly but it sure cleans stuff up!

Re: more progress
That tank sure made short work of what would otherwise have been a sh*t load of elbow grease.

Re: more progress
Andy, anytime I touch a brush the paint finds spots on me also. Normally it's something I can't see till after I get out of the shower and find out, oooops I am multi-shaded. It just a LOT longer to make they POR disapper.

Nice job Longhorn! I read so much about POR 15, but I can never find the exact link on Eastwood's site, it always comes up with crap stuff that isnt what I need. Got a link?
