Does anyone run a powertrax?
I am changing rear gears. For now I will keep it open diff. Next week I will order a powertrax unit http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku. Who is running one and how do you like it? I might get 15X10 rally wheels for the back. I have 2 years old tires from my car. I think tires will clear with the right backspace. I am planing to visit a dodge boy in 2-3 weeks.

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?
I have one setting on the shelf in the garage ready to go in. There's been some comments on these. Most complaints I hear is the clicking noise it sometimes makes when turning. The way I see it, if you have a loud exhaust, won't matter anyway. I still plan on installing mine as soon as I finish the disk brake conversion.

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?
I have heard some complaints too. One of my friends has one in his '71 nova and likes it. How durable are they?

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?
I rebuilt the differential in my 71 a few years ago and put in a PowerTrax with new 3:73 gears and I really like it. Although the truck has been driven very little because I haven't finished working on it yet, I am pleased with the end result. I can verify the clicking can be a little loud at times but I bet it will quiet down once the unit wears in a little. I think it works better than a posi does.... You won't be dissapointed for the money... It's a great upgrade for any truck provided it isn't driven on ice!!!!

If it doesn't click, something is broken .

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?
Will one of these work in my stock 12-bolt. I'm not sure if the "Axle Model: GM 8.875 in., truck" under the application tab on Summit was the same as a truck 12-bolt which is all I've ever heard it referred to as.

In making the decision, just realize you can get an eaton posi for $364 bucks at summit. The will match the lowest price on the net which is here: http://www.rearendparts.com/home.php?cat=149 Last edited by jlaird; 03-30-2008 at 03:16 AM. |

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?
How easy would it be to swap in the eaton posi compared to a powertrax?

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?
Sorry for the thread hijack but what's the difference between the 3 and 4 series carriers?

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?
I broke my no-slip unit on the first pass it made down the track. Im sending the unit into to richmond for a warranty inspection and hope its covered. If they dont refund me and just exchange with a new unit i will post it up for cheap. I really think I had a bad unit because im right under 400 hp and was professionally installed (which isnt saying much). Anyway I went to a mini spool because I had one laying around.
One thing to consider, and this is what some guys at the track were telling me and not my experience, but when you pull into a box and do your burn out.. sometimes only one side will lock up, then you go up to the light with 1 wet tire and when you launch the wet tire will lock and spin. Just my experience with it and will keep you all informed about the warranty deal so we know how richmond is about that eric

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?

Re: Does anyone run a powertrax?
I put on in my 71 felt good at first. It would lock one side then unlock the other. Came back home pulled the cover cheked it all out looked good. Found out that air pressure in the tires were off (slicks) matched them up drove it around felt good. Stoped in the road Stalled it up and let it have it felt awsome till the thing Ulocked or if you will disengaed BOTH sides hit the high side chip @ 6800 RPM. Oh on the way home locking and unlocking. Called Eaton told them what was happening and did I do any thing wrong during the install they said no.(went through the install process) They said to return it. So I called summit and all is well. Eaton did ask how much power I was making & I said about 550 or so the first thing he said after that was send it back. So my recomendation would be a spool or a POSI. This is just my experience.
