I checked the search and couldn't find my answer anywhere.

I want to switch to a one piece driveshaft in my 67 swb. I have a th400 and 12 bolt rear end. Does any one know the length of driveshaft I will need? Also, anybody know of a vehicle that will have a driveshaft that will be a direct swap into my truck?

I would measure mine but it's 600 km away and there is a lot more selection of places to find one here than the town where my truck is.

They never came that way.Someone needs to measure for you.Ask whoever will make up the driveshaft how they want it measured.Usually it`s center to center of u-joint.As long as they know what points were measured from they should be fine.

Take your measurement from the centerline of the rear yoke, as in the center of the u-joint bearing cap, to the center of the splined yoke that is exiting from the tailshaft of the transmission. That measurement is the length you need. Make sure the truck is resting on the ground in its static position, not on a rack with the wheels suspended by the springs. A drive-on rack is best for this, as it offers you the best range of movement to take your readings. I'd measure mine, but it's at the body shop and it just ain't possible.

Expect to spend about $150+, in my area for a NEW fabricated one-piece driveshaft. You may be able to find one in a junkyard, but you may have to have the ends swapped-out to get it to work for you. Don't forget that it needs to be balanced.

the 2 piece driveshaft was only in long bed's ? wasn't it ?
I have never seen a short bed with a 2 piece , was the truck a long bed and was shortened ?

My SWB has a 2-piece driveshaft, as did my sons' SWB.

only way to know is to measure YOUR truck, their are too many combinations of where to mount the motor, if your planning on lowering your truck, you want to do that before you get a new shaft made. best way to help the guys making your driveshaft is to have c-c measurement and bring the old u-joints or shaft with you, new yolks are expensive, they could possibly use your old ones.

sb in forward position with a th400 should be 58 1/4" for a swb truck from center to center as mentioned. If you have a slip yoke make sure you pull it out 3/4-1" for the measurement

thanks guys, my dad should be able to measure for me sometime this week unless he's working out of town.

redhead69 58 1/4" sounds about right for mine, I measured 54" from the closest weld to the slip yoke to the closest weld to the rear end and last time I was there, but I knew I was probably measuring incorrectly, I'll be sure to get an exact measurement of mine tho.
