Classic Truck Insurance
Any body have any good affordable companies that insure our classic trucks at a reasonable rate? Just a weekend driver not daily use. Thanks

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
If you only drive weekends and have a locked garage (and are over age 25) there are lots of options for super cheap, like $100-150 per year policies.
Off the top of my head... You can call hagerty or grundy...

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
A guy I talked to at GoodGuys this year swore by Grundy's. Said the insurance guy even "appraised" it himself. For a truck in driver condition, w/disc brakes, drop, wheels/tires and a couple of other mods said it was worth $28k. I think he said he paid $180/year or so.

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
Hagerty is the way to go.
Appraised at 14,500, FULL Coverage, 50 miles free towing, Plus a discount for "passive anti-theft" = $170 yr. So far (knock on wood) I haven't needed to use the Towing option and I hope I won't have to, but it sure is a great feeling knowing it's there if I need it. If you're going to get classic insurance (Whoever it is) make sure you spend the little extra bucks on the towing. Good thing about Hagerty too is you can change to "unlimited towing", but that's a little more money, so I figured, for now, the chances of me going far beyond 100 miles are slim. Keep it to something you can afford. Plus, I'm also a member of AAA.

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
Be aware that standard inurance companies might just say your truck is just an old truck and total it for a thousand bucks (even if you have a stated value). So get it in writing if your not using a specialty company like Hagerty or Grundy.

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
Most companies will NOT give you anything but $1500 for your truck. I dropped GEICO after 20 years because they would not give me what I wanted on my 77. For the same money I was paying GEICO, SAFECO gave me $8000 agreed value coverage on the 77 Bonanza.
To those who quote Grundy; they basically laughed at me when I taked about insuring my daily driver. Here is what they said. If you have $10,000 a year MINIMUM in PREMIUMS, they will insure your "junker/daily driver." Now, that was PREMIUMS, not value of any vehicle. I think people are just parroting what they see on TV as Grundy being for the little guy. They are for the DEEP POCKETS only, my man! I called about a dozen different outfits all recommended here on this board by guys who supposedly are insured with them. They all either laughed at me or NEVER called me back. So, take what your hear, here, with a grain of salt, until you have tested the water for yourself. For what it's worth. LBJ |

Mine is a thousand a year on the Tahoe, but my parents pay that thank god. It is through Grinnell or something like that, a company for farmers and stuff

Re: Classic Truck Insurance
That's why I suggested getting it officially appraised-he could use *any* insurance company. They have to insure it for the appraised value, so they can't total it for your ex. of $1000
