Seat? What years fit a 1970?
I have a 1970 Chevy C-10 When I bought it someone had already removed the bench and put in a couple of ugly buckets from some other car in it. I want to restore the truck and my question is this:
What other years bench seat will bolt in without doing any mods? Will the 1973-1987's bolt in? |

Re: Seat? What years fit a 1970?
Here's another bump since I've been looking myself.
For my 69 I'm thinking a 90's truck seat and mounting it to my original brackets. Don't believe they will just bolt in without some modification. All the earlier year seats that I've seen are in worse shape than mine. For my 68 I will need a bottom foam and upholstery kit. Maybe fix the end spring wires. |

The lack of any good quality proper year seat in junk yards is why I'm asking too. Im not worried about the condition of the vinyl I will be recovering it anyway.
I need a complete seat with brakets and the 73-87's are everywhere in the junkyards just not sure if they will bolt into my 1970 C10? |

Re: Seat? What years fit a 1970?
I've been looking pretty hard into seats for my 69 as well. Seems most any chevy bench seat will fit and fill up most if not all of the cab door to door. But i don't think any will bolt right up. A few threads i've looked at have some bolting holes match up on the front only.
Personally i think about an 88 or 89 60/40 bench is about the best. Or at least it looks like less fab work, ie chopping the mounting brakets down, then anything else. Plus you can get them out of a pick and pull for around $20 on a good day. But the 99 up silverado split captain seats are very cool, but expensive. probably around $175 for the pair at least. But for recovering and getting new foam, fixing springs, fixing latching lever, looked to me to be around $250. I always pick wierd and cheep over smooth and expensive. my $.02 Last edited by jayharrell; 04-09-2008 at 08:06 PM. |

Forget it, I just read it. I believe the 87-9x benches bolt in, may need to drill the front holes.

73 - 87 wont even come close.
67 - 72 are the only direct bolt in, others can be made to fit, but forget about 73 - 87, the floor was crazy in those ones. |

Re: Seat? What years fit a 1970?
What "fits" may not bolt up. Custom Classic Trucks (I believe) did an article a couple years ago about what "fits" and what doesn't. Their idea was to showcase those seats that fit nicely inside the cabs.
88-98 truck seats fit, and I've heard that the 99-06's do, too. There are some holes to drill to make it happen, but the fit, width-wise, is good. 92-99 Tahoe/Blazer seats fit, too. 2nd-row seats do also, but there is no fore/aft adjustment. The supply of '88-98 seats has dwindled for the good ones, but keep looking and you'll find one. Whether bench or 40/20/40, they'll fit.

when you say won't even come close, what exactly do you mean? I got an awesome black one off CL and planned on using it in my truck. I know this sounds retarded, but I like the way the seat bumps out near the front on the edges. My legs always hang out towards the edge and the piping edge on our regular seats annoys when wearing shorts. How bad is the fit. ithought I might be able to adjust the legs a little on the frame. Have I lost my mind? Shawn

Re: Seat? What years fit a 1970?
I have the 93ish bench seat in mine. It is a bench with a drop down armrest for the driver. It is nice because it has the feeling of a bucket with the utility of the bench. I will see if I can figure out a way to get a picture on here.

Re: Seat? What years fit a 1970?
Shawn, the floor in our trucks are flat. if you were to look at the floor of a square body, there is nothing flat about them. You'll see no two legs match in length. I doubt this is something you can overcome without totally redoing the track/frame of the seat.

Re: Seat? What years fit a 1970?
TEMPLETS: A pattern or gauge, such as a thin metal plate with a cut pattern, used as a guide in making something accurately. this is required to ADAPT: to make suitable to requirements or conditions; adjust or modify to fit. this was performed by my self on my truck a 1972 chevrolet 1/2 ton. the seat used is from a mid 80's chev 1/2 ton. it sits on the adapted steel brackets (bolted to the mid 80's seat, with the stock brackets removed) and the other end of the adapted bracket bolted to the factory 1972 bench seat floor mounted stock location sliding seat brackets to compleating a fully functioning sliding / tilt forword seat that works very well. i still have the templets if required, feel free to ask if need be. 463

Re: Seat? What years fit a 1970?
Shawn just finished hand drawing the templets for useing the 73-87 seat in a 67 - 72 with 67 -72 seat brackets (note 73 and up seat tracks are removed for the change up) i used 1/8 plate steel for the adapter plates. i used a die grinder to oblong the holes. this was installed in the truck in 1991 and still working good.
