Man these tank straps have me confused how does only two J bolts or hook bolts hold this thing? Am i just an idiot ?? Does one end of the straps go between the frame rail and tank? I have my tank sitting on a jack agianst the bottom of the frame and all four tabs are in their holes someone please help!!

I bolted one end of mine in place with the tank bolts (*firmly to the frame) and then used the "J" bolts on the other end to snug it up. (no pics, sorry).

I tossed the J-bolts. I raised the tank up to where the lip touched the frame rails, used self tapping sheetmetal screws to secure the lip to the frame, then ran the straps from one crossmember in front of the tank, to the crossmember behind the tank. Attatched those with sheetmetal screws too. You just have to be careful when screwing the rear crossmember not to hit the tank with a screw. There's got to be a joke in that statement somewhere!.

Not sure I would trust sheetmetal screws to hold 22 (or whatever capacity it is) gallons of fuel.

I'm an A/C tech./installer. So I deal with sheet metal screws on a daily basis in all kinds of material. It is truly amazing what a sheetmetal screw will hold. Mainly, it depends on not stripping the screw, and how it carries the load. Yes, it's not hard to pluck a screw from metal when the load is pulling directly away from the material (like the ones in the lip). But they will hold several times the weight when the load is pulling on the side of the screw (like the straps are secured). I didn't use any little wimpy screw either. They are pretty good size screws. Much larger than I use in my proffesion. And they're SS, not zinc.

I know water weighs 8.8lbs per gallon. Gas is a little less. So 22gallons is 193.6 lbs if it were water. Eight screws through the lip of the tank & three on each end of each strap bring the total to 20 screws holding that dude in. I do not see a problem. I weigh almost that much myself, and have literally hung my entire weight from one much smaller screw in much thinner metal.

I'm not worried about it one bit.

I lost the J-bolts for mine, so I just used some threaded rod cut off. Forming the straps can be a pain, but once the shap is there you are good I did not do metal-to-metal between the tank and frame. I split a rubber hose to use as an insulator so there is no chance of it rubbing the tank with component flexing and movement.

Not to steal you thread but has anyone had a problem with the fuel gauge not working wright? I took the tank apart and did the test on the gauge and the gauge is fine. When hook to a ground it pointed to empty and when there was no grounds it pointed passed full.

i used j bolts on driver side and regular bolts on the other side.

my float had a hole in it when i got my tank so i bought a new float. it was reading zero with the bad float, could be your problem
