New Texan onboard
Well I found this site thru a friend a few days ago and have found so many helpful things.
at 16 I started with a 64 fleetside that dad wrecked - bought a 66 fleetside with no motor and no wiring harness and a TH400 - my grandfather (GM Mechanic) and I swapped the motor (235 straight 6) and the wiring harness from the '64 to the '66 and bolted the TH400 to the 235 (don't get me started on how that went) gave it to my younger brother and then to mom after dad passed and she sold it. Now I have a 69 3/4 camper special (thus the name) PS, Auto, that I bought from my wifes grandfather (original owner) in 1998 - still have the original sticker and bill of sale from purchase. He dropped a target master 350 in it in 76 and then got a company truck a year later and it sat till I bought it in '98 - 132K miles - less than 10K on the 77 motor. I love it and have gotten it back to daily driver worthy in 2000. Last year I got a cab over for it and am driving it more (I run bass fishing tournaments here in texas in my spare time) but have a few things I have to fix (speedometer gear) to get it inspected - last inspection was 2000 and now that I am carrying the extra weight I gotta do something about the brakes (no power assist brakes). Here is what I have done so far - rear axel seals u-joints coil - plug wires - plugs - distributor rear brake diaphrams all hoses and belts new exhaust new stock header on passenger side removed factory AC (don't get me started on this) pulled and prof. cleaned gas tank (new sending unit, new lines from tank to front) fuel pump new carb tranny cooler new wheels (got rid of split ring rims) speedometer gears are first order then brakes. teaching my 9 year old son the ropes on this truck as is will be his in a few years! this is a great site and thanks for all the advice that I know I'll be asking for and the great people that will gladly put in their 2 cents ! thanks Ian
