Blizzard of '87 interior remodel

Introducing the truck I call Blizzard of '87. This is the first formal introduction to the board I have made for her. She's a 1987 4x4 V30, one ton single axle pickup truck, equipped with a fuel injected 350 backed by a TH400. Power is dispersed through an NP205 Transfer to the Dana 60 front axle and the 14 bolt corporate rear. I picked her up late last summer, but wanted to keep it a surprise to board members until I actually had some money to put into her. I gave $3500 for her, and she came with the BOSS V-Plow! I gutted it last week! The blue interior was trashed for the most part. I have been sitting on a factory green interior from an 80 Sierra for about a year. It's time to utilize it and clear that cabinet for some more chevy parts, so I took the plunge. Pics below, and thanks for looking......

Dash pad is out to the trash....

Dry fitting the green pad just to see what it looked like...

Re: Blizzard of '87 interior remodel

I forgot to mention 85000 actual miles, and I'm the 2nd owner! The radio didn't work, and the driver's side wing lower hinge was rusted out. It had a lot of nuisance problems. I just want to make it comfortable to drive with a working radio, etc. Since I'm a smoker, I already installed a replacement wing assembly. I LIKE MY WINGS to work! Thanks again for checkin out my project. More pics to come as the days progress!

Yes! The new shop is workin out great. I have the 72 on one side and the 87 on the other. Stepson had to change the clutch in his truck Tuesday night in the gravel out front. That's what he gets for buying a Ford. I have the phone number of a guy that runs a landscape business. He told me to call anytime and he'd load me up with plowing for him. Havn't decided yet, may just use it for personal use like I did this winter.

Updates on progress. Got the Headliner in and wired. The wires hanging out of the front are for the plow controls. I didn't like them mounted on the dash. I painted the Highliner and my factory vent kick panels with Rustoleum for Plastic, since the 80 kick panels don't work in this truck. It's a perfect match for my other factory green parts, as you can tell by the pics. CB Cadillac radio is wired and ready to go. Next step will be to lay the carpet, and I'm sure that'll be as fun as putting the Highliner in.

Re: Blizzard of '87 interior remodel

How well does the CB work in that radio? I know when they were in the Cadillac they sucked but that was because of the crappy antenna. I see you have a real antenna mounted so I assume it's much better.

Not sure how well it works yet. I'll find out when I get it outside. The cadillac setup used a signal combiner and one antenna. The single coax ran to a breakout box or separator where two coax came out. One went to the antenna spot on the head unit, and the PL259 went to the remotely mounted cb unit under the dash. I've eliminated that, ran co-phase antenna directly to the cb unit, and the fender mounted AM/FM antenna runs directly to the head unit. Can't properly adjust the SWR and know how well it actually works until I get it out of the building. That'll probably be this weekend. I'm hoping to get the carpet and the seat installed tonight, followed by the gauges and dash tomorrow. Can't do the door panels till I hit up a junk yard to figure out how the rear-most strap bolt on the door is supposed to mount. This truck wasn't equipped with straps, and it's missing something there.

Re: Blizzard of '87 interior remodel

Once the dash pad is in, the rest of the Sierra trim will go in. I.E. a-pillar, windshield, pillar where the upper seat belt bolt, and rear window headliner trim. I forgot though, I still have one seat belt bolt broke off I have to drill out. It's the center closest to the driver. I probably wont have the seat in tonight.

I got it here. http://www.lmctruck.com/ICATALOG/CC/full.aspx?Page=109 It didn't come with those four LED toggle switches. I put those there for the strobe, work lights, etc. Those came from Advanced Auto.

How bad was that headliner to install? Was it bad because of size or did it not fit right?

Re: Blizzard of '87 interior remodel

It fit OK. Size and weight were factors. Hard to hold it in place and hold the drill. It's definitely a two person job. Don't try it alone. Probably would be a lot easier if the seat were in there. I was squatting and the blood flow to my legs and feet was bad. I prewired it all before I stuck it in place, and that helped a lot.

I like it, does it have anything on the back of it to prevent squeaks and rattles?

It comes with a sheet of foam to put in between there. It's about a half inch thick, kind of like a mattress pad type of material.
