Edelbrock carb question
I need to get a new carb and was wondering which one I should buy? The motor is the original 350 but I plan to have it rebuilt soon. I was going to get the carb and intake at the same time but I haven't decided if I'm gunna go with the Vortec heads or just have the 487X's that I have now, reworked. I need to make sure that the carb will work with the original intake.
The rebuild on the motor is going to be mild.....I might even go with a stock crate motor.

Id say 600 Edelbrock or a stock Qjet if its working right

Vortec heads are good but not that good unless you are talking about the aluminum models which are really, really good hi flow, hi torque heads. But they are also a thousand dollars a set. With either you'll need a special intake at $200 a set plus special rockers and valve covers. It adds up. By the time you redo your 487 x's ( good heads if yours are reusable. many are not ) you are looking at $400 to $500 depending on how far you go. A new set of world product torquer heads will set you back $600 or so to your door and will come with new manley stainless valves and hi lift springs in your choice of sizes and chambering and will outflow all but the aluminum vortecs plus you can use the original rockers, valve covers and manifold if you like.

a set of iron vortecs will pull 380 ponies from a 355,with a Comp Xe 268 cam.......no bowl work,only machining guides & proper springs.......not to shab in my book! 69

At about $460 COMPLETE from the General, you will have a difficult time finding a better deal (but you will need new rockers and valve covers). Even GMPP recognizes the power to benefit of the heads, take a look at their crate engines (at least on the lower price range). And a Edelbrock Performer Vortec intake can be had for $160 plus shipping from Summit Racing. Run the 600 cfm Edelbrock Carb.
Hmmm, are you running a four barrel intake now? After looking at the same options you are, I opted for ---a crate 350, edelbrock 600cfm, HEI, & headers. Doing heads on a tired low end is just asking for trouble. Rebuilding a 350 cost more then a brand new crate from GM--($1300). Warranty is excellent 3yrs or 50K miles. Unless you are needing really high performance, avoid mixing stuff up too much. My truck pulls just fine for most applications. Matching it to a 700R4 or late model 5speed give you -20mpg with a decent rear. Good luck~~~Huck
