Question about factory tilt column
I picked up 2 factory tilt columns yesterday from a guy that's had them stashed away for almost 20 years. They are in pretty good shape, one has the factory half moon plug on it still and the other has a flat to half moon adapter. I started to get suspicious since I knew the van tilt columns had a flat harness, but he said the switch assembly had gone bad years ago and had been replaced. He said they no longer made the assembly with the half moon, only the common flat one with a half moon adapter was available. Does that seem logical? Everything else on it seems to point towards it being a factory C10 column, is there a full proof way to tell?

Re: Question about factory tilt column
Yes, the repop turn signal cams have the flat plug. If you want, post up some pics of the columns so we can verify they're truck style unless you're confident they are on your own.

Re: Question about factory tilt column
the shaft coming out of the bottom of the column for an original truck tilt is quite short about less than 3" and the neutral saftyswitch on the van tilt is much higher up ythe column than the truck tilt //post picks you'll get a quicker answer

Re: Question about factory tilt column
The lower steering shaft is longer on a van column. The way to tell is to take it apart and see if it has been collapsed for a truck.

leddzepp, the shaft that is collapsed is the steering shaft between the column and the steering box. It is not the shaft inside the column. You do not need to take the column apart to determine if it's a van column. Just look at the end of the shaft coming out of the column, as the people above are saying.

Re: Question about factory tilt column
Ok, here are some quick pics I took. The first 4 are the column that still has the half moon harness. The last 4 are the column with the flat harness with adapter.

Now I have no choice but to buy another truck to put the second tilt column in!

Re: Question about factory tilt column
Couple of quick questions,
I see these were truck tilts, but would a van tilt work also? Would the the truck tilt or Van tilt work with a 4l60e and hit all the gears? How much are you guys paying for tilt columns? Thanks Henry3rd |

Re: Question about factory tilt column
Just a little add info---GM had tilt columns manufactured for trucks, cars, vans and motor homes. They have many variables and I have seen "tuck tilts" from vans and motor homes that had the half moon connectors and the short shaft so ---don't loose too much sleep over original stuff. Huck
