Wheels and Tires

I have a 70' chevy c-10 1/2 ton 2wd and I am dropping it with 2 1/2 spindles in front and 4" coils in the rear.
Now since I am not a tire guy, and feel like an idiot for not knowing exactly how the #'s effect the size of the tire and what not.
I have a free set of BFGoodrich tires i won in a raffel, I can either get All-Terrain T/A or Mud Terrain T/A I think the all terrain will look better on a dropped truck.
My question is what will fit and work? I know I need to be atleast a 15' wheel because of my disc brakes, and I was thinking of a wheel something cheaper like the Balk dayton's. The wheels need to be 5lug x 5"... so if i went with a 15" x 8" wheel would it first work and what size tire would i need?

My two cents.....

You should pick a tire size that's popular when you get your free tires. Then, sell them on Craigslist for a set of street tires! Just thinking this because both of those BFG models are more aggressive off road tread patterns. I think your wanting to go with a street look, correct?

You should be able to get a fairly good hunk of change out of the BFG's if you sell them.

as for your wheel question, you will have to post up a pic or a link to what your thinking of. a lot of the newer wheels are hub centric. but you will have to use lug bolt centric wheels on our trucks. which in short, means most of the newer rims will have to have the center hole ground out a bit.

and don't worry about being a "youngster". your asking good questions!!

Thanks for your insight on my issue. I know the are more of an off road tire but I was thinking of maybe using these in the winter, since I am in Colorado. I like your idea in selling them but then I have to figure out a popular size that I could sell them for and go through that process. And yes i want more of a street tire. I am just weighing all my options.
Maybe I could have BFGoodrich give me more of a street tire instead of an offroad tire?

If you are running 15x8 all around i would go with 255/60/15 in the front and 275/60/15 on the rear.Hope this helps

Get a set of 37/12.50R17's in the MT's because you'll get more out of them. Then like mentioned, put them on craigslist for a good discount and buy some street tires for your truck. BFG AT's are awesome tires, just not for a lowered truck.

Previous posts are giving some good advice- get the 35 or 37" Mud-Terrains and sell them to pay for the street T/A's or G-Force's. As far as sizing goes there is a fairly simple formula I use to figure out the actual height of any tire I may be considering;

Tire Width (1st number) times 0.Aspect Ratio (2nd number) divided by 12.7 plus the wheel diameter (3rd number).

Example Tire: 275-50r15

Formula: 275 times .50 = 137.50, divided by 12.7 = 10.83, plus 15= 25.83" tire diameter.
