The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

The good... the big brown santa came to my house today, too. Dropped off five boxes from ECE.

The bad... air compressor had thrown the flywheel off the pump.

The ugly... got the flywheel back on, spun it by hand to make sure of no grinding, bumping, etc. Looked and sounded good until I flipped the switch. About two seconds later, rod came through the block and chunks of aluminum bounced off my chest and elsewhere around my shop! AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

Time to get a new pump!
Otherwise, it was a lovely day.

Hope everybody going to Maggie Valley has a great weekend.

Regards,
Paul

Re: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

Yeah, I'm fine. I stepped to the front and reached around to flip the switch. It was a glancing blow, but it d@mn sure got my attention! I've always heard the good Lord looks out for children and idiots. I turn 52 tomorrow, so I know I don't fall into the first category!!!
Just another speed bump in this big ol' road called life.
Thanks for the concern.

Glad to hear that you made it out okay...

Not to change the subject, but what did you order from ECE, and where are those pics???

Re: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

Hey Nate,

I got a 4/5 drop set up with rear air shocks, and a sway bar for the front. I talked with Stan at ECE last week and he said he wouldn't even offer to sell 6" drop springs for the rear. I had asked him about the extra weight of the long fleetside and he said 5" springs would just about give me a 6" drop due to that weight. That's why I got the odd sounding 4/5 drop.
Sorry about the pics. I just had enough time to get to a "bike nite" to see some old friends, then had to tear back home to see Overhaulin'. I'll post some tomorrow.

Paul

Glad you are okay from that compressor blowing. I like your " Just another bump in the road of life" analogy. I'm 58 and have had a few bumps myself. Remember, "Life is a Journey, not a Destination"

What did they give you to get a 4" front drop, a 1 1/2" dropped spring with the 2 1/2" dropped spindles? I didnt know they had a 1 1/2' dropped coil? You will love what that front sway bar does for your truck.

You're exactly right about the springs. I'm looking forward to the drop and the sway bar.
I got almost 900lbs of blocks this afternoon and the truck leveled right out, and felt solid, not springy. I hope the new springs will stiffen up the ride in a like manner.

Later,
Paul

Re: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

A few years ago I bought a Honda Goldwing ( 850 lbs.)put it in the back of my truck and drove home 450 miles and I remember she leveled out nice I really liked the way she rode. Please keep this thread and post some before and aft pics of your truck when you get the lowering kit on.

Re: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

What type of compressor was it? Looks like an aluminum pump head?

Re: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

The compressor is about an eight year old DeVilbiss. The only info on the pump is, (I think), DAC-227. Just so happened, when I got to Agri-supply, they had one in stock for $199. All I needed to do was take the head off and rotate it 180* to get the air ports on the proper side. Been using it most of the weekend!
It may be a bit before I get the ECE gear on the truck, have to do a grad. party for our son's fiance, (East Carolina, Magna cum Laude), next weekend, and I'll be having the thyroid removed the following Friday. But I'll get it as soon as I can. Be assured, there WILL be pics. I wouldn't be able to show my face otherwise!

Regards,
Paul
