Im proud of my old bomb truck!!

Im going to start this by saying that my step daughter is getting her drivers license and needs to learn how to drive. So my wife and i decided to buy her a car now as incentive and she will learn how to drive this car and take her road test on it and being she is only going for her permit, she is going to help fix it up. Now remember she is misguided youth and well she is a step daughter so she has some of her biological dads genes and well she wanted a mitsubishi eclipse for her first car so after much bickering i broke down anbd bought her one on Evil bay for a whopping $400.
The kicker tho is the car was located in East Hartford CT which is a couple of hundred miles away.
One of my employees was going to get paid to take his van and us and go with a UHaul tow carrier and pick the thing up and deliver it to my friends house in NJ so we could work on it there. Long story short after a few days of attitude i fired the so and so before he could go on this trip so with nothing else able to make the trip i decided to go in my 82. The transmission was just done along with the U Joints and brakes and the leaky valve covers were replaced with new ones ( gaskets were leaking but i put on chrome covers and new gaskets)
Anyway we finally got out of the UHaul at 10 am ( after getting there at 8 am but he had to get the electric to work to the trailer and we drove the 720 miles today round trip from NYC to East Hartford back through NY State into NJ to Colonia NJ and back to Brooklyn and just got home now and the truck ran like a top and never gave a lick of trouble I was totally floored at the way this motor performed on hills and under the load of about 3500 lbs between the car and trailer
The drawback was we went through four tanks of gas or about 65 gallons ( figure 16 X4) but with a th 350 and alot of uphill i guess it wasnt so bad
I dont have any pics of the car yet or the trip but it was nasty rain all day but it just goes to prove you cant kill these old birds the motor has over 264,700 on it

Re: Im proud of my old bomb truck!!

Nice story, Rusty. I'm taking the 87 today on a trip to pick up some TSL Swampers I found on CL. If you run into Mitsu trouble try starquestclub.com. It's for a different type of Mitsu, but the basics still apply. I used to hang out there when I had my Conquest. I'm much happier being a Chevy truck owner and hanging out with you guys tho...

road trip in youy chevy!! thats cool wish i had my truck ready for the road but thats still a lilttle while away. And congrats to your stepdaughter on her first piece of independence and good luck on teaching her how to drive. I had teach my sister and wife how to drive and the nuber one lesson is "everyone is an idiot and no one knows how to drive, not even myself" beacuse its true down here in south texas. Well good luck

Nice. I have used the uhaul car haulers twice now. One from LI to MA and one from NH to MA. They work pretty good. Glad to hear the old gril ran like well a Chevy!
