What did you get done? 05/11 Mothers Day edition

I spent most of yesterday car shopping with my daughter. It absolutly amazes me that my "baby" girl has suddenly become old enough to get her first car. She has had her heart set on a Hummer H3 for over a year now. Unfortunately the gas prices have crushed her dreams and eliminated that as an option. Instead we have been looking at fuel efficient crosssover SUV's. It's really hard to get excited about anything that gets good mileage...

Today I went to my Mom-n-laws house and had tons of great food.....What did you get done?

Yesterday, I put the radiator in the lowrider, still need to fab up some mounting brackets for it since the truck had a smaller one in there for the 350 that I took out. I guess I'll install electric fans since the shroud won't fit either.

Today, we went to my oldests daughters graduation ceremony and then out to eat with the wife. Man I wish it'd stop raining for a while her in KY. I feel like I'm back in Seattle.

Re: What did you get done? 05/11 Mothers Day edition

I tried getting the beast to fire, but a leak in my fuel line is letting air in. So, when I get some spare time, I'll be tracing the leak and getting air out of the lines. I really want to drive my truck again, but I'm beginning to seriously consider just starting the dismantling process so I can start restoring it and getting it on the ground.

Spent the rest of the weekend with the wife and family.

Kenny, I was hoping to hear that you cranked it up and drove it this weekend.

I was real close to driving mine yesterday. Got the brakes bled and the trans controller hooked up. I fired it up and put it in gear for the first time, but it was still on jack stands. The rear wheels actually turned. But then my make-shift power steering hose blew apart.

Re: What did you get done? 05/11 Mothers Day edition

Its my birthday today so I decided to take the day off (ground was too wet to cut grass, lay under the '85 and hook up the exhaust and try to get the 2nd motor mount bolt started (first went in like a champ first try. Dropped the 350 and trans in yesterday. Gotta get out and hook everything up and see if it fires up and hope that no other problems are found with it so it can be my DD while I work on the '77 since I sold my F150 last week.

Re: What did you get done? 05/11 Mothers Day edition

I got the drivers side floor and support/brace welded in. Went to the strip club. Picked up a set of doors for the stepside. Shopped for Mothers day. Bolted and alinged the drivers side door. Changed out the lock, vent window, and inner panel. Removed the old passenger side door. Worked pretty much all day sunday.

changed my valve cover gaskets over to cork, and now they no longer leak, go figure.

oh, and before that i removed the vacuum advance canister and put in the lockout plate, also installed the correct bushing in the dizzy to give me 35 degrees timing instead of 45.....

the truck runs a lot better now

Cleaned up my grimy tranny, removed headers and starter, & prepared garage for next week-end. My younger brother and myself are going to pull our first engine, which I'm pretty amped up about, then we're going to watch the top-alcohol drags at woodburn drag strip, which is even better!

Go grab her a *gasp* 2008 Ford Ranger or 2008 Mazda B2300 with a 2.3L 4cyl and 5 speed manual. GREAT gas mileage, and very fun to drive with the 3.73 gears and a motor that just begs to be revved hard to it's 6000 RPM redline. Very affordable too. Besides, a girl from Texas has gotta drive a pickup! The boys at school with the auto transmissions will be scratching their heads too!

Went to the junkyard Saturday looking for another driver side door. Neighbor's kid destroyed (backed into) mine on Friday. No doors but I did grab a pair of bucket seats ('01 Cavalier), dash speaker, and a wiper delay module.

Could check out the toyotas as well they got some new decent pickups. I spent yesterday with family because it was my bday as well and then went mudding up in the hills. Way long night because some kids took a car and ended up stuck about 15 miles back in the hills and we decided to go and do the right thing and pull them out plus I almost rolled my Blazer down the hill. I got a drive shaft and new Warn hubs on the '90 Blazer and the 4wd works great now. Spent today with my mom and bros and got some chores done as well.

Saturday was spent working on my Mustang, complete brake job, valve cover gaskets, plugs, cap and rotor, then a nice dinner with family and friends. Sunday spent the day over at brother-in-laws with all the moms, great food and even better company

Picked up my truck, all the body work and primer is done...doors need a little tweaking still otherwise it is nice and straight.

Tossed a new carb in and plugs, now it is running better than ever. Although i got a little white smoke this morning when i fired her up...which is unusual.

Installed a new power window motor on the drivers side...no more helping the window open and close!

(that's my GF in the background of the first picture...didn't even know she was in the picture until now.)

She would love to have a truck, but Mom vetoed that option. Since she is very athletic, and has great muscle definition she gets grief from the boys already about being butch. She is def not butch, but Mom thinks driving a truck would add fuel to the fire.

We are considering crossover sized SUV's like the Mazda CX7, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Saturn Vue. So far the Saturn Vue is coimng out on top.

Re: What did you get done? 05/11 Mothers Day edition

Saturday: Scored some 38 inch Swampers from Craigslist for the 79 K20...$225. Found out my 87 gets just short of 11 MPG highway. First time I've been brave enough to go any distance with it.

Sunday: Had a "Welcome Home" party for my youngest brother. His guard unit is freshly back from Iraq (It was his 2nd tour there). This was at my Grandmother's place so it was kind of a combo party for Mother's day too.

Ken, the farther the 'boys' stay away @ this stage in life..... the better. You know it, I know it. It's worse when they have curves.

I finished up installing my freshly rebuilt tilt in the 74. It's nice to have working turn signals, horn & even a horn button. Hopefully the thieves will leave it alone for a while. I'm even arranging all the parts & will be installing the crack free OE dash I picked up off of e-bay a year or two ago. I might just do carpet too..... Only other thing worth mentioning is I made a deal on a new FI drivetrain. Should pick it up sometime this week .
