Re: what do you do?
I get up early and work on my truck on the weekends since most things I have to do don't usually start until 11:00 or later. When I get home I work for an hour or two if I can. Its the good thing about sleeping alone, I don't have to wait on other people.

Re: what do you do?
I have a wife and 2 kids.
I have to make myself work on my stuff sometimes, just life I guess? I feel for ya, and think it is safe to say that we have all been in your shoes, don't give up, and post pics of your truck and progress this site can be a great motivator.

Re: what do you do?
yah, I feel your frustrations mayn...Everytime I see progression on the homies rides I get frustrated. Lack of $$$, resources and know-how are a pain in the ass but when you dont make some type of progression even if small makes your time totally worth while!....take a breather, sometimes I find just a good wash and application of Rain-X makes me feel like Ive done something! lol

Re: what do you do?
dude... i bought a rebuilt 350 over 3 years ago. It is just not getting started up and driven. I realized this as I was talking to Adam (NF65Fleetside) and looking at my original receipt. So dont feel bad. I have a truck bed that still needs to get finished up and I cant seem to find motivation to do the bodywork either. Even knowing the joys of cruisin and summer coming up I am still slacking!

Re: what do you do?
I'm with you on the lack of time! I have a wife and a 3 year old. I also work 10-16 hour night shifts at a 9-1-1, PD, and FD dispatch center...but all these thing are very rewarding....even though I have very little time to work on my truck. So I look at it this way:
I will enjoy every secound I get to work on the truck, even if it is only 1 secound!

Re: what do you do?
Yep.. lack of time here also. But n65 did make a good point. Sometimes doing something quick and small gives a good feeling of accomplishment. Choose something that is small but needs to get done. You will see some progress and hopefully it will motivate you to the next task.

Re: what do you do?
I've been told the easiest solution for lack of motivation is to break big projects down into smaller projects. That way you're always making progress no matter how small.

Re: what do you do?
I agree 100% with Salazar and Hawk here-
Make a list of small (1 hour or less) projects in order of their importance and work it down - works for me. |

Re: what do you do?
Exactly, baby steps. Set a small goal for each afternoon you get to work on it and you'll get more done in a short amount of time than you think. Sometimes looking at a big project can be overwhelming but breaking it down into small bits helps with the frustration. Concentrate on the small stuff and the big stuff will fall right in place.

Re: what do you do?
Have wife 2 kids and 2 jobs, one full time and one side job to earn extra cash. I have kind of put mine on the back burner for now due to gas prices and now i have basically 2 house payments. One is actually for my house and the other is daycare cost which is more than my house payment. Just hold on to it because when you sell it you which you had it back-been there.

Re: what do you do?
I am in restoration full-time, so unfortunately , my projects always come last. I try to get in an afternoon here and there, but sometimes I might end up going a month without working on mine. Customers come first! Jerry

Re: what do you do?
I think for the most of us we all got our plates full. I'm working 70 hours a week, got my house tore upside down remodeling, got my truck in a thousand pieces, pontoon boat sitting in driveway waiting for me th find the time to clean it. I just come home and chip away a little bit everyday, hopefull one day I will get close to catching up. On my days off I do find some time to get a little done on my truck and then post picks. that way I can spend the next week or two sharing with all of you guys and it helps me keep my interest. Sorry not trying to jack your thread.

Also, to Turtle, I hadn't touched my trucks for about 4 years due to life happening. Even thought of getting rid of some stuff but am glad I didn't. Even when I didn't want to work on my truck I would buy parts for it from time to time when I actually did have a little extra cash. I now have enough stuff accumulated, have a little extra time and am excited about it again. It all goes in cycles-you get down about it but eventually things turn back around. Just don't give up!! Re: what do you do?
Because of this post it motivated me to remove my spare tire, cut off the tie down hooks on my bed, and do some much needed body work on my bed. Thanks!

Re: what do you do?
I get burned out from looking at the amount of work I have to do, and the fact it probably wont't be back on the road for another few years. One thing that helps me greatly is cleaning up my shop work area, it is so much more appealing when its clean!

Re: what do you do?
One of the best motivators for me is to go to a magazine rack and grab everything you like, sit and read. The best ones are the how to articles and the ones that feature cars in bare steel or cover the steps of the build. Thats what does it for me!
Amen Rob! I never want to work when the shop is dirty! Last edited by Imperial Kustom; 05-15-2008 at 11:25 PM. |

By making a list of managable tasks, you will have a sense of accomplishment when you complete a task, a game plan to get you there and a sense of pride in bringing things to task. Sometimes a project can seem overwhelming because all of the information is floating around up there and it seems impossible to bring a project to fruition. I also create a "wish list" that lists all of the things I would have/do to my dream truck and a cost associated with doing it. When you come into some truck/fun money, you have a plan for what to do with it. I hope this is helpful, because it has helped me when I have so many irons in the fire and seemingly little time, funds and energy to tackle them. |
