Hood Latch trouble

Hey Guys,
I removed my hood latch to give me better access for installing my tranny cooler, and ever since that when I hit a bump the damn thing will come loose. I maked around where it was, and thought I'd put it back in the same place, but I guess not. I'v moved it twice now and have not helped it at all. It worked fine until my dumbass moved it. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Tim

Re: Hood Latch trouble

Possibly the height changed in the process and the latch isn't fully locking on. I suggest loosening the pin and raising it a half inch or so. Close the hood on that and you should hear a good solid click. The fit should be loose enough that you have some free play and can yank on it to simulate the bump, and make sure it stays latched. If good so far, then adjust it back down until you get the snug fit.

You probably should WD-40 or otherwise lubricate the upper mechanism and make sure it is all operating freely.

Re: Hood Latch trouble

I have the same problem. after removing the hood and placing it back on it wont shut all the way down. There is some play in it. and the rear of the hood is lifted. Sorry for the hi-jack!

Re: Hood Latch trouble

RickF is on the right track. Another old machinist's trick that you can use.

First, clean the tapered pin with thinner. Also the jaws on the latch in the hood. Then take a magic marker (if you're a machinist use dye-kem) and black the surface of the tapered pin.

Lower your hood onto the pin, where you feel first contact. Then lift the hood and move the pin so it is centered and repeat.

Once you get the pin centered then you can work on the height adjustment.
