Should I go Billet???

Been tossing around the idea of making a billet grille for the Jimmy. A friend of mine gave me a painted grille for a 68 GMC with a few dents in the center section and rather than trying to straighten it I thought I might try to put a billet center in it. Here's a Photodraw rendering of what it might look like.

How about it??

Re: Should I go Billet???

Hmm, well, I'll give you my honest answer, I think it's hard to beat the look of a clean stock grill, regardless of whether it's a GMC or Chevy and even regardless of which year style. I like them all, course I'm a little biased to the 69-70 Chevy grills since they are clearly the best looking grill ever made. Whoops, did I mention I'm a little biased.

Your rig is pretty bad ass so the important thing is will you like it?

Re: Should I go Billet???

I think that looks kind of cheezy!
If the dents aren't real bad just get some oven cleaner, scotchbrights, then polish it up good. If the dents are real noticeable you could always beat 'em out best you can then bondo it up & paint the grill same as your body color.

I realize that I'm in the minority, but I kind of like it. But what's most important is your opinion.

Re: Should I go Billet???

Apparently I'm in the minority. For some reason, I like it. But, like YJ said, all that really matters is whether you like it.

Re: Should I go Billet???

Judging by the rest of the build, anything you do will work well. I myself, just don't like all that chrome coming at you. Needs to be broken up somewhat, give the billet more time, may grow on ya.

Honey-do

Re: Should I go Billet???

I like the billet grills. Maybe one with the thinner bars would look do it for ya. Either way it'll look killer. Also its one of those things that if you don't like it after awhile, you can easily change it. If the pocket book allows, lol... All those grills are high dollar. I dread buying a new one. I need an outer and inner. Oh, I'll probably be going billet....
