69 GMC truck engine
Can anyone tell me what the origional engine color was in a 1969 GMC 1/2 ton truck. It was my Grandfather's old pickup that I learned to drive in.He passed away about ten years ago and somehow I was able to get the old truck back to Missouri and I am looking to restore it.After Grandpa past away the truck went to his brother out in Wyoming who was planning on restoring it himself. He also past away. The truck came back to Missouri to my mother.I was recently able to talk her out of it to restore. The only condition was that I had to put it all back origional.Grandpa replaced the engine just before he passed. It has about 100 miles on it.He was just an old farmer that did not care how it looked too much so he didn,t bother painting it before he installed it.Any kind of tips that anyone could give me about where to find parts would be greatly appreciated.I will definately be needing new passenger front fender as well as a new chrome grille.

Re: 69 GMC truck engine
Welcome to the board!
If it was a inline 6 or a small block chevy it would Chevrolet orange. If it happened to be one of the big GMC V6's, it would red, but I don't know what the correct code would be. Duplicolor makes a red engine enamel that is almost exactly the same color though, and that's what I'm using on my V6. There lots of vendors out there. Go to the link below and LMC Truck will start sending you free monthly catalogs, and they are very detailed and have lots pics, drawings, and specs. Good luck with your build. http://www.lmctruck.com/scripts/mgrq...ENTS=-ATK,-ACB

Re: 69 GMC truck engine
Thank you very much.I thought it might have origionally been orange. It kind of looked like there was some remenants of orange on the intake. It is a small block Chevy V-8.

Not a problem! We love pics on the site, so if you have some on file or can get some, we'd sure love to see it. Of all of my trucks, none of them have story like that. Thee were only 2 in my childhood, and I would love to have had the one my dad or my grandad had, but both of them are long gone.

Re: 69 GMC truck engine
I will take some pics tomorrow and post them.I am in the middle of pulling the engine and transmission tonight getting ready to take the body apart to take to someone for body work.My sole goal is to get her restored while my grandmother is still around to see it.It will mean about as much to her as it does me.It will be a daily driver when finished.I have a 2006 Dodge Megacab that I am driving now, but nothing compares to an old pick-up in my opinion.I restored a 66 chevy truck several years back.Wish I had never sold it.Getting married and having a baby sometimes makes you get rid of some of your toys.
