Room for a shifter between the seat and door?
I believe, a long time ago, I saw a picture in one of the magazines of a truck with an auto trans sifter that was mounted between the seat and the door. I cant get to my truck right now to check but does anyone know if there is enough room? I don't remember the shape of the floor pan right there either but I think its at a steep angle?
Any help on a first post to this forum would be greatly appreciated. -SOB Edit: My truck is a '63 Last edited by Mr. SOB; 05-28-2008 at 06:26 PM. Reason: addional info |

Ok, I'm pretty sure there is enough room.. I will give it a shot in a week or so. I have about a month and a half of free time to work on my truck starting next week. Wish me luck!

Good luck, and be sure to post some pics. I'd love to see how that set-up looks.

Sounds like a cool idea as long as you can keep from hitting it on your way in and out of the cab. Might have to mount it closer to the rear of the seat? Good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Room for a shifter between the seat and door?
I'm thinking I will just keep it short so it is actually below the seat or, at least not sticking up above it. Like I said though, I dont have my truck with me right now.. so I guess its more of a theory... I think if the sifter isn't feasible maybe a floor mounted E-brake.

Mainly so its not in the way on the floor.. I don't really like column sifters.. and, if it works, why not?

Re: Room for a shifter between the seat and door?
coupleof other ideas... some ealu mopars had the push button shifter on the dash.....
Also I saw on the boyd coddington show once an electric controlled shifter that bolted to the tranny, with a remote shifter. There is about 4-5 inches between the seat and door at the floor, I suppose that you could make just about any cable controlled auto shifter fit in that spot, and then cut the handle to suit... |
