Copper, Copper and more Copper!

First off let me say copper is a great color in my opinion but it seems to be getting overdone now on all classic cars as well as our trucks. When the copperhead truck came out it was the coolest looking truck on the planet but then everybody jumped on the bandwagon. I have a feeling it's going to be the Teal green of the early 90's in the next few years. Remember when scalloped paint jobs were big? Now they look corny and dated! I don't think the color will look corny but definitely not look real unique. When the time/money comes for new paint it won't be copper Off my soapbox for now Oh, and don't get me started on Rod Door panels I'm starting to like the two tones that Foose has done with these trucks but the classic factory look is still the best! Any thoughts?

Re: Copper, Copper and more Copper!

Fads will always be just that.
There are also always classics.

You can't go wrong with some things. The way things were original in most cases will always be a style to most. Otherwise, you will be trying to keep up with the current trends.

As far as paint colors, well, black and red always look good, don't matter when. Just depends on the person I suppose.

Scallops are rather timeless, but they need to be on the right vehicle, unlike flames....which go on nearly anything

The thing I really remember about the 90s, other than the pastel colors, is the "blob" flames thing. Instead of a point they looked like drops/drips except that they flowed back like flames.

Re: Copper, Copper and more Copper!

i think the copper color is great, i am going to paint my truck a house of color tangerine orange which is somewhat copperish. I also like the green color that seems to be in, like the color on the foose impression car and grandmaster. Its soft but elegant in a way.

you know, the funny part is, i was watching that show "Rides" the other day and found this out - the guy from ZZ Top had a hot rod names Copperhead long before Stacey David dreamed it up here's a pic of that car: http://ukkustoms.com/Gallery/albums/...Ford_coupe.jpg

Re: Copper, Copper and more Copper!

I love the copper colors. I would like to paint my '63 either the color of Copperhead or that copper orange color that was used on the Prowlers, or maybe that copper orange color on the newer Eclipses.

Re: Copper, Copper and more Copper!

Yeah when the copper colors first came out, I told my wife and my dad I wanted to paint my truck a copper color. About three weeks later, we went to a show and there were at least 10 cars painted a copper tone. I looked at my dad and told him that idea was scratched out. I agree it may be overplayed, but it's kind of like Torque Thrust wheels, when it looks that good why not go with it.

I debated for a long time wether or not to paint my truck the blue that I went with. I had not seen any cars or trucks painted the same color. I think that board member Pat has his the same color. I also tried to keep a theme with my truck that will stay in style for a long time and wouldn't look trendy or dated 10 years from now.

I also agree that factory two tone schemes look best. Unfortunately, it's hard to step out the box and be real different or original when you have a paint scheme just like half the other vehicles like yours.

Matt, your truck looks great You make some good points. I was like you with the copper color. I think it looks great but it's being used on everything and anything

Re: Copper, Copper and more Copper!

i like to be different.

my truck was painted that teal color from the factory, and if it werent for the original paint in the cab, nobody would belive me that its a stock color.

it really stands out, especislly with so many bland-colored cars on the road these days.

i hate people jumping on the bandwagoin with stuff like that, it just shows no imagination, and not enough balls to be yourself.

Re: Copper, Copper and more Copper!

I really like the stock colors and they are quite unique when compared to the colors today. You could always try adding a shade of pearl or metallic to the stock color to give it a little pop and make it slightly different at the same time.

Re: Copper, Copper and more Copper!

Copper?
Personally, I've never seen a '67-'72 painted copper other than online.
I would love to see one in person!
Copper's a very nice color, blues are also special colors..blacks, reds, yellows, oranges and purples are too.
...heck, pretty much any color is nice when it's fresh'n'clean. Go with what ya like...be it stock, copper or some 70-80's retro.
And Stllookn's right; any color can be "jazzed" to be a bit more special.
Go with where your passion lies.

Re: Copper, Copper and more Copper!

Red was my first pick, then i saw so many of them and plus i had a copper color motorcycle so i decided to go with it. I personally don't like the copper color on project copperhead. I have seen some cars that were painted using the paint formula from that truck and it dosen't have enough BANG in the color. I like Kandy colors, the paint color is explosive and very wet looking.
