Re: Engine swap?
you'll need V8 engine towers and a V8 tach

Re: engine swap?
Here is some info I found looking this up:
FYI the 305 v6 engine is not a street performer due to the RPM (3700) ranges. The engine was designed as a work horse not a hot rod. and the mounting of a 305 v6 is weird due to the trans has no mount on it only the block and bell housing has the mounts. the trans hangs off the back of the motor with only the bell housing bolts holding it on. So Looks like you will be making Motor Mounts changing Bell housing. However the trans TH400 is common and might work with a new bell housing. There will be the obvious usual stuff that is easier to update then try to modify to work with your existing electrical harness. Hei distributor wiring would be a new 12+ wire and Tach (if you have one). Then bypass the original external voltage regulator and use a 1 wire GM has always been the easiest for me. The stock Alt. Might work depending on the brackets and water pump pulley alignment. Hope that helps.

Re: engine swap?
Welcome... Nice find. I've been looking for a 67-68 stepside myself but haven't had much luck.
Some will tell you to keep it stock. Just rebuild the old workhorse and fix the truck up. But, for simplicity, a 350 definitely is the way to go. You may be able to get the parts you need from the guys here on the site. I'm not familiar enough with the v6 to give input. My 68 GMC is a plain 250 six with three speed standard.
